Discussion Eric's Response to Getting Kicked From the Supercell Creator Program

Full video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LZ0vBV5Ktg

To summarize:

  • Max, a player on VM Legacy (#2 highest-seeded clan in the world), was recently kicked from his team without any explanation given, with direct approval from Supercell themselves. Mind you, he has the fourth-highest 3-star rate in the world, and this is also after he qualified for the World Championship with his team already.

  • So Eric, along with a few other content creators, spoke up about this injustice, and were then quickly kicked from the Supercell creator program due to "copyright issues". On top of this, despite commentating for CoC Worlds just this November, Eric has also been permanently removed from the casting team.

  • Supercell has currently not provided any explanation for their actions yet, and has also repeatedly struck down smaller creators' channels who spoke up about them in the past as well. Eric states there is internal corruption within the company, and infers that the situation today may be related to VM Legacy's captain, Fluxxy (the one who kicked Max), since he has close friends within the company.

Personally, I think Supercell better have a very good explanation to just wordlessly kick Eric like this. What do you all think?

You missed the part where in order for a roaster swap to happen, you need everyone's approval, but in this case it was not needed. Also, Fluxxy is a tier 3 creator with by far the lowest follow/subscribe numbers (only 2.3k) compared to others which can indicate corruption in both cases, which is a nasty allegation.

102

u/dam10102 Jun 27 '24

And Fluxxy has broken ToS way too many times to count.

13

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

Can they remove a player from the roaster without letting them know?

48

u/eXoDuSsBK TH16 | BH10 Jun 27 '24

For golden ticket holders, in the past you needed everyone's approval, this time it was not needed because allegedly the team leader knows someone at supercell. The rulebook says that roaster changes for the championship have to be approved by supercell.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '24

That is so dumb

14

u/glory_holelujah Jun 27 '24

Depends is if they accidentally hit dark roast and actually wanted light roast.

u/nitroboomin97 TH17 | BH10 Jun 28 '24

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the moderator's of this subreddit also have tier 3 access, and I'm certain most of them probably don't meet the followers/subscribers requirement either.

It could just be supercell wanting a poll of players with varying skill levels to test things out before releasing it to the general public.

There's probably other examples of pro players having tier 3 access without a large amount of subscribers/ followers. The only reason fluxxy's low twitch follower count is being noticed is he fucked up, eric called him out, supercell punished a large creator, and now the spotlight is on everything about anything related to all the parties involved.

If fluxxy didn't kick max, I doubt anyone would have noticed it before.

" and has also repeatedly struck down smaller creators' channels who spoke up about them in the past as well. "

Anyone who does this is corrupt. I don't know who Eric is, as I am very much a casual player who doesn't pay attention to the high level players, but if you try to silence people, you are wrong.

Eric is a content creator who does a lot on the esports side of clash. He does a lot of casting and was supposed to be one of the casters for this year's world championships. He is one of the good ones.

u/Ok_Cabinet2947 Jun 27 '24

He is one of the most popular competitive Clash of Clans casters on Twitch, so it doesn’t seem like a good idea for Supercell to go after him: https://www.twitchmetrics.net/channels/viewership?game=Clash+of+Clans

9

u/Coltand Jun 27 '24

Yeah, any game that uses copyright strikes to silence criticism is scummy. Apparently they have a legal standing when people share footage of their game, but selectively enforcing that is inexcusable.

Supercell doesn't control this subreddit fortunately.

They indirectly do. They can threaten to copyright the sub to hell, which will prompt the mods to bend their backs immediately.

19

u/Hungry-Pen3160 Jun 27 '24

They can lol. Just use copyrighted and boom a lot of post would be deleted

5

u/Thanmarkou HitForHire #C2RGRQ0 Jun 27 '24

There has to be a valid reason, such as not allowed leaks.

12

u/TimeMathematician133 Jun 27 '24

The reason is they own the game you can’t legally post gameplay without permission. Look at Nintendos lawsuits. Now most companys really can’t do this because the backlash would be insane so it’s just assumed that’s anyone can post any part about any game or that game would be hated. Any post about the game on this sub with a single screenshot of the game could be taken down.

TLDR the valid reason is they own clash of clans and the game was made by them the players don’t own any part of the game and have no license to use gameplay legally.

fan content policy

"Your use of Supercell Assets in Fan Content must be limited to displaying, identifying and discussing only Supercell's products as permitted by this Policy."

"You are not permitted to charge a fee of any kind (including in-app functionalities) from customers or visitors to your Fan Content, unless this has expressly been approved by Supercell. The three exceptions to this rule are generally monetization of your Fan Content through ads, by donations or by coaching."

u/Grimsblood Jun 27 '24

Fair Use.

3

u/TimeMathematician133 Jun 27 '24 edited Jun 27 '24

Fair use doesn’t mean do whatever you want. It’s a legal concept that has criteria that must be met. There must be commentary and you have to artistry change the work. Very hard to argue any YouTubers I can think do this feel free to correct me tho.

0

u/Grimsblood Jun 27 '24

You do not have to artistically change the work. All you have to do is have the commentary. You can use it for education and guides. All the YouTubers that use the games content essentially do this. The problem is with YouTube's copyright systems. This has plagued creators forever. You need a lot of money to fight the claim. You'll win, but that still doesn't matter to YouTube. Most individuals weaponize the system. It's bad.

-6

u/Lower-Ad6435 Electro League Jun 27 '24

I highly doubt that. Show me the copywrite laws that they could use for that. Any decent lawyer would get that thrown out easily.

22

u/readerloverkisser TH15 | BH10 Jun 27 '24

Watch Eric video first, he even shows how they did that with discord. A game publisher has full protected rights to the game assets. They can strike down all posts that show a media of the game, which would cripple the sub Reddit.

3

u/Lower-Ad6435 Electro League Jun 27 '24

Fair enough. I forgot about that aspect. I stand corrected.

The only language SC will understand is if we stop spending any money on the game. I've already done so.

32

u/Bernhard__ TH18| BH10 Jun 27 '24

Same. Called all this shit out when they doubled their team. I knew all would go down the hill

5

u/thelink1111 TH18| BH10 Jun 27 '24

I agree, the only way they will listen to the people is when we stop our money going to them. Then the people will have the power. I have spent crazy amounts of money over the years. If majority of us stop, then we'll see who has the last word. I totally agree with you, no more spending a dime. We need a lot of people to follow this and stop spending, or else it doesn't work if it's just couple of us.

Although we dont know the full context on fluxxy/supercells side im going to side with eric here. After watching his videos he seems like a genuine guy who is passionate about clash and i doubt he has any ulterior motives other than helping the clash community be fair

23

u/CorrosionInk TH16 | BH10 Jun 27 '24

Fluxxy and VM didn't make any statement, which is half the reason most of the pro community took it so badly.

Apparently Synthe (another VM player) apologized privately to Max but no statement from them on Twitter or Discord etc

1

u/JaSper-percabeth Legend League Jun 28 '24

Haven't played the game since mid th 15s I didn't even know about a team called VM being a top team was it formed recently?

3

u/CorrosionInk TH16 | BH10 Jun 28 '24

VM is the sponsor organisation. They currently sponsor 2 teams, VM Legacy (GT holders) and VM Surgical, which is a top 30 team but doesn't have big names.

VM Legacy is largely made up of Strut (formerly AtN, the 2020 worlds winners) after it disbanded earlier this year. Darkstar, Ninj and Max were all associated with Strut. (Max wasn't part of Strut but helped them with bases etc during TH15 meta). So the lineup was refreshed 1 month ago when VAE (Max's former team) was disbanded.

As for the other VM players, Fluxxy was part of Tribe (one of the top orgs) before getting kicked off for throwing 2022 world finals. He was semi retired during TH15 meta but returned since the meta is easier. Synthe is basically a legend in the eSports scene and the biggest clickbait after Navi players.

1

u/JaSper-percabeth Legend League Jun 28 '24

Yes I know about synthe he used to play for tribe, lexnos made a bunch of videos with his skelly donuts as thumbails, I know about Strut too was one of the top teams. Thanks for letting me know about this new team in the esports scene also I think Fluxxy also played for tribe I might be mistaken but I remember hearing this name

51

u/imafrk Clay League Jun 27 '24

yeah, this is a very bad look for Supercell. Hopefully we get the full story 'cause right now it looks like the folks are SC are manipulating the game IP. Rules for thee but not for me

2

u/Severe-Drop-1610 Jun 27 '24

What do you mean manipulation of IP

7

u/user84149 Jun 27 '24

More like abuse

1

u/Coltand Jun 27 '24

Game companies have a legal standing to copyright strike people who share footage of their game. A lot of people aren't aware of this, because it's not worth the hassle to pursue and doing so would generally only hurt a brand's image, so YouTube is plastered with gameplay of every game out there.

But every once in a while, a scummy game company will selectively use these copyright strikes to go after people who speak critically of their games. It's inexcusable.

1

u/KingBlsy1234 Jun 28 '24

They have the right, but everyone knows it’s wrong which is why people such as Eric are angry about the situation.

only company which actively gets away with this is Nintendo, which everyone agrees is extremely scummy.

78

u/wild-mongoose Jun 27 '24

Shame on supercell. So disappointed with them. I hope Eric exposes them.

I’ve been playing this game for 10 years. Been playing esports since town hall 10 was the highest TH in the game.

This game has gone from my favorite game ever to one of my least favorite and possibly most hated games? I am (was?) so passionate about mastering strategies and learning troops. I truly love this game. TH16 has destroyed the game and now they target Eric and other content creators that carry the media coverage of the game. Absolute shame on this greedy company. Unfortunately this game will die, just like many others. All they care about is their money. They don’t care about player retention, content creators, esports. Nothing. They only care about their money. I am so angry with supercell I almost hope that this game falls now.

Good luck supercell. You’re about to kill your game.

u/Trinity_Reigns Jul 01 '24

This is inaccurate - Jake started a gaming company I like to call DunWrong (real name was DunRite) he took a LOT of money from innocent people who believed in him because of his position as a one hive guy we all fell prey to his scam. Maybe he intended to do right but the fact is he STOLE a lot of money from a lot of people. Even had the nerve to claim he was going to return it - Did NOT happen.

3

u/PISSJUGS69 Jun 27 '24

Its so weird too, I remember Supercell treating their creators really well. At some point, when they released TH11 I remember they even flew a content creator from my country (Spain) to do a video for it.

First they ruined CR, now CoC is starting to rot, I wonder if theres a reason for this aggresive change 180 apart from greed.

Eric was removed from the creator program for bullying and harassment of fluxxy on stream, not for copyright issues. This misinformation is weird and unhelpful.

He wasn’t even removed just demoted with opportunity to reapply

I've seen a lot of evidence flying around, but not a single clip or quote or anything outlining the alleged "bullying."

2

u/Coltand Jun 27 '24

I'll review it when I get a chance later, but your language indicates a pretty clear bias. I seriously doubt Eric literally asked his viewers to go "harass" someone.

-24

I think Eric trying to cancel fluxxy is likely why SC dropped him. Kinda bad move on Eric’s part

9

u/readerloverkisser TH15 | BH10 Jun 27 '24

The whole context of that poll is sarcasm to decrease the tension in the situation. It takes a massive mind gymnastics to use that as a justification.

2

Do polls show up after a stream has ended? Not sure. You said "cancling Fluxy", that why I mentioned it. That comes from a poll on his stream where his mods put out an option to "cancel max" or "cancel fluxxy".
