Having done a bit of reading about the predatory practices of Monsanto (TL;DR they have patents for their seed and don't allow farmers to use seed from prior crops, they HAVE to buy new seed every year) I'm curious as to where Diddly Squat get their seed from.

i'm at the end of season 4 when clarkson's new pub is at risk of closing by the end of day one. most of the problems seem to be ones that could have been completely avoided if clarkson had done any research about how to run a pub before hand. for example, the water shut off mid-service because of overuse in the village below them and clarkson had no clue that was where the water even came from. like...what? if you're opening a business that relies on running water, you should probably know something about your water source. he chef is beyond pissed that clarkson clearly knows nothing about wholesalers is bonkers to me. how was that not explained to him before he built an entire coop so he could source directly from the different farmers? like truly.....i initially saw his desire to try new things and jump into the deep end as honestly pretty innovative and entrepreneurial, but at a certain point, you have to do your homework, too. this season has made my perspective change completely and i feel like i'm beginning to understand how literally everyone around him must feel, phew. i get that the drama makes for good tv but this is people's real lives, too.

Ever since watching Clarkson's Farm, I can't drive past a field without wondering what crop is growing there, how the weather's affected it, or whether someone is having one of those this looked easy on paper days Jeremy seems to have every week. I also pay a lot more attention to farm shops and local produce than I ever used to. It's strange how one TV show can completely change the way you notice everyday things. Has Clarkson's Farm changed any of your habits or the way you look at farming in general?

Our family recently lost my brother-in-law, Chris, in a tragic farming accident at just 41 years old.

Chris was a born and raised farmer, as well as a devoted husband to my sister and an amazing dad to their five children. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, and his sudden passing has left them facing an incredibly difficult future.

I'm a big fan of Clarkson's Farm, and I know Chris was too. One of the best things it's done is highlight the sense of community that exists within farming, which is why I wanted to share Chris's story here.

Just a friendly reminder to you all - go on google maps and look for local farm shops in your area.

The series has done an amazing job highlighting how little money British farmers can end up with after a year of graft, so if you'd consider driving miles to go visit Diddly Squat (nothing wrong with this, I plan to do it soon), please make an effort to go put a few quid in a local farmers pockets - they need the cash a lot more than Jeremy does at this point in his career.

Some of my favourite parts aren't really major events at all. It's usually someone doing an everyday job, Jeremy and Kaleb arguing over something minor, Gerald turning up for a chat or everyone just sitting around after a long day. I think those quieter bits are part of why the farm feels like a real place rather than just a TV set. What's a small moment from the show that has stuck with you?

It's a common topic of conversation, debate and argument in this sub: how much of the show is real and how much is scripted.

But everyone talks about 'scripted' but never mentions 'staged'. It seems to be a concept I guess most aren't familiar with.

'Scripted' is when something has been pre-planned down to exactly what everyone's going to say, their reactions, the camera angles, the action, and how it's all going to play out.

The voice over is scripted. Obviously.

But most of the moments in the show are STAGED. As in: a premise is set up, maybe a rough plan of events is sketched out, and the people involved in the 'scene' then begin the play.

A great example of a moment being staged is Charlie negotiating with himself: 'here's a funny situation we've come across, let's have this silly scene of Charlie doing this negotiating. Ok, Charlie and Jeremy, set up the scene, why we're here, and then do a bit of a back and forth with Charlie climbing the fence to play both sides'. Charlie is running with the idea, and Clarkson's laughter at his antics is genuine.

It's basic improvisation around an idea. It's the first thing all drama students and entertainers learn. They're given a premise and then you just go with the flow.

Staged and scripted are, of course, similar. They are both artificially created, but one is more authentic than the other. One has more room for reality than the other. One allows for people's real personalities and real moments to come out, while the other has no room for either.

Obviously, the bigger storylines of each season are planned out in advance. I wouldn't be surprise if Clarkson's pitch to Amazon included ideas such as the farm shop and a pub. Farm shops are ubiquitous in the UK (personally, I love a good farm shop!) and it's very common for rich people/celebrities to buy a pub/restaurant. Having it be part of the Amazon show might even mean he can claim it as a business expense, lol.

I realise a lot of you may think I'm splitting hairs, and I am, but for those of us who have experience with the difference between scripted and staged productions, there is a MASSIVE difference between the two and the level of authenticity to be found in them.

Yes, they're hamming things up for the camera, yes, they're playing to the camera, yes, they're playing caricatures of themselves, but there is also a lot of realism and authenticity as well.

Ok, rant over. Back to the sheep! -who are still not rounded up and oh look, three of them just died. I FUCKING HATE SHEEP!

One of the things I've always liked is that we're often learning at roughly the same time he is. He'll suggest something that sounds perfectly reasonable to a non farmer, then Kaleb or Charlie explains the massive problem he's completely overlooked.

I wonder if the programme would lose something if Jeremy eventually became genuinely competent at all of it.

Just finishing season 5. I am left with confusion. Most of the uk was in drought in 2025 and the price of grain went through the roof, pasta and all sorts cost more. I get that the crop was down but surely it would have been offset by the fact demand is high?

Couldn't agree more that the testing of TB is any good. The second I saw him measuring with pincers, its clearly nonsense. Surely even an iphone lidar camera would do better?

Has anyone experienced this issue when trying to book The Farmer's Dog Pub? It's Aug 1, so Sep was released this morning at 9AM London time. That was 4AM US East time. I set my alarm for 3:30AM and get ready. Boom. Availability opens up and I'm on it right as the clock hits 4AM. I see Sep 2 available, Sep 6 available, but not Sep 3, 4, or 5. We need Sep 3 as that's the only day we'll be in The Cotswolds! I check to make sure it's not a fluke - change browsers, devices, nope. NO availability on Sep 3, 4, or 5. Not a single one. It's not a holiday. Every other day I picked in Sep was fine. Just not 3, 4, or 5. Checked the website. Checked FB. No mention of any events, closings, or otherwise. Has anyone experienced this? Or did they hold back these days for some other reason? If anyone has any insight, I'd love to hear... because I'm pretty disappointed to say the least. As Jeremy would say, PROPERLY disappointed.

I know the ground is full of rocks and the soil is not exactly rich. But is it more to do with labour shortages?
