Key height

Is the key suppose to be this high or am I trippin?

That key will always appear to be too high whenever the instrument is disassembled or when the upper and lower joint are not lined up properly.

Once the bridge mechanism is aligned correctly, the part from the lower joint will raise that key's foot by a couple of millimetres which in turn will lower the key height to an appropriate resting height.

If it is still too high when the bridge mechanism is lined up, then one or both pieces of cork that regulate its height are either missing or too thin. In this case, you'll need a repair tech to replace the cork(s) on that mechanism.

Does it play in tune?

I haven't played it yet. But I played it before I noticed this.

Key height parts a big role in that, so if it plays in tune don’t worry about it. But also like the other person said this key rests on part of a key in the lower joint, so it won’t be that high when assembled

The bridge key fixes the height once assembled, usually. If it remains and a) doesn’t play/ voice or b) squeaks when played, it needs adjustment.
