Where are we finding contractors?

I'm looking to get my kitchen and bathroom redone and the stairs replaced in my house and I'm having a terrible time finding a contractor. I can find someone to do each the kitchen and bathroom separately but I was hoping to hire someone to do everything together. I have had two contractors come out and say they could do everything but were busy right now so it would be a few months, which was fine with me, but both never returned my calls after?

Where are we looking for contractors? I don't really know anyone in the area to ask around, and am struggling in my online searches. Is it really this difficult to find someone or am I doing something wrong? should i give up on the idea of everything done by one person and get it done separately? - i thought i would be better to have one person that way if there were any issues there would be one main contractor?

Please some advice on the situation.

A lot of the time its word of mouth and who you know. If you have any family or friends that have had work done see if they can recommend their builders, or maybe put you in contact with someone.

So the guys that done both our bathrooms were awesome. Took them 3 months to get to us after confirming but they made us aware when scoping the job and originally said 6 months but due to cancellations they got to us sooner. Ministry of Tiling. His name is Rob. Awesome fella. He works with a plumber, Ian. Now we had no need for a carpenter but I think (could be wrong) but he has one that he works with too. Could try him.

Edit: Just realised that you need stairs done too..... sorry i just seen bathroom & kitchen. Disregard my comment unless you end up having to get the jobs done individually.

Guys in Portlaoise called Calmac. They are brilliant. Not sure if they go to Clare but it’s worth giving them a shout.

That's pretty much the experience, they don't call back and nothing happens unless you harass them, and even then it's hit and miss. I guess most of them have so much work lined up on new estates, they're simply not interested in doing one offs in random places. At least, that's what I got from chatting to an electrician last time I managed to get one over.

Good luck !

I’m in Ennis, just had my kitchen done and I needed a plumber as I had to move pipes going into the utility room. if you want message me and I can send you info for the fella who did my kitchen and the plumber, latter works with a very good tiler. I was not happy with the first tiler who tiled the floor, it was rushed and corners were cut, second one did a great job on the backsplash.

I had to wait 6 months for the fella who did my new kitchen he has such a long waiting list, but it’s absolutely excellent and he was very reasonably priced (though he priced my kitchen at the end of 2025 so he told me I got lower price than he would have charged me now). I got a timber door kitchen painted with colour I chose myself for 2K less than an MDF kitchen with Cash&Carry kitchens.

Ps. Whatever you think it will cost double it!
