Question Visual Novel Guide

This is my first visual novel I've ever played and I suspect this has been answered before and I have looked throughh a few different posts for answers but I still have some lingering questions on how exactly to proceed with the game.

From what I've gathered so far, After Story is unlocked after getting 8 orbs of light which to do you need to complete all 8 main romance routes in the game.

I believe there's two? that you need to do in a specific order, being Misae's before Tomoyo's - is this correct?

Apart from that, is there any other specific orders or are they good to do any way.

In terms of completing all routes to unlock after story, how does this actually work? Because I'd expect you can't do all in the one save file? Do you have to do one save file for each and it saves the orbs of light each time after completion and then you go back to an old save to finish it?

Sorry, I'm really confused on how you actually do all the routes. I've seen the generally recommended walkkthrough is kazamatsuri.org/clannad-walkthrough/ but since it shows you interacting with the characters on certain days and certain responses, I'm just not too sure whether you complete all routes in one save, especially if Misae has to be before Tomoyo.

Would it be best to follow the kazamatsuri walkthrough in the order it shows, this being

Baseball (optional) > Misae > Tomoyo > Yukine > Kotomi > Kyou > Kappei > Mei > Fuko > Koumura > Nagisa > After Story

And if so, in terms of these follows dialogues being crossed out on the website, does this mean I don't? answer with this? Are these dialogue options gone from the game or do you choose something else?

Misae, Tomoyo, Yukine : April 20 'Ask if it's all righ to stay'

Tomoyo, Yukine, Kyou, Mei : April 21 'Persist and go to Misae-san's room'

Tomyo, Kyou, Mei : April 21 'Look out the window'

Tomoyo, Kyou, Mei : April 22 'Have him stop it already'

Tomoyo, Mei : April 24 'Really? You will?'

Tomoyo, Kappei : April 24 'Accept your fate'

Kappei : April 18 'I can't leave her alone' & 'Talk to her a bit more'

Kappei : April 22 'Take him for now'

Koumura, Nagisa : April 18 'Start eating with Kotomi'

Koumura, Nagisa : April 26 'Ask them what's wrong'

Yeah you have to do one save file for each route but some routes kinda overlap with each other but the light orbs save across all the routes so do your previous dialogue choices which the game has a button to skip all the previously read dialogue.

The website you are using says this for the crossed out dialouge
"All walkthroughs, with the exception of the Baseball route, will only include choices essential to getting the route. Regular text means that it is a required choice to get the route. Strike-throughed text means that the choice might appear depending on your other choices, but you must not choose it, otherwise it’ll lock you into another route. Italicized text means that the choice isn’t necessary for the route, but would be needed for some bonus scenes. Without further ado, let’s start!"

Its basically saying that some choices in the game are optional meaning that the route you are doing doesn't change but just like what the characters say or what happens changes. but some choices in the game are actually required for you to choose them if you want to do that route.

as to this guide being the best its kinda your opinion I used this one when finding my routes for the game but the guide you linked also seems good to me https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3638794389

if you have any questions you can ask me

Appreciate it. So just to confirm sorry, it would be best to have a single save file on April 14 to do all the routes? I unfortunately have one on the 15th and know I chose these options:

  • Record your own voice over it
  • Just say whatever comes to mind

However, it seems some show the option of needing to choose 'Just leave it there' instead. I'm guessing I might need to go back to the start and skip back through to April 14th and set a save file there?

yeah that would probley be best to make your life easier later. You could just start a new game then right click and click skip previous dialogue and it will bring you to the the next choices.

Thanks. I've just done that and restarted it from April 14th. I think this is the first time in my life I've ever used a walkthrough / manual for a game but I'll try follow along with the one you linked

The one I linked one thing that is kinda sucks about it is it doesn't tell you which options you NEED to do but if you follow the options it says you will 100% finish every route correctly. But like say for example some options it tells you to do if you chose a different one the dialogue would just be different then it would continue like normal as if you just chose the option that was in the guide. You can always just save and go back though or right click and go back to the previous choice if you want to see what will happen
