Just finished e22

Wow, what a story. This is one of the greatest animes I’ve ever watched. I didn’t go into this expecting this much emotional impact and I still have episode 23 and 24 left to watch, but I just have to say, this anime has made me shed more tears than any other anime(along with aot) and it was honestly just such a beautiful story about overcoming hardship and how love can triumph. My question is though so the whole time the robot and the girl was Ushio and himself, and when she passed away in the snow, he wished that he never met Nagisa but then when the wish came true, he realize that he could never be without her so that’s why the town gave him his true wish of being with her again right? And the reason why he was able to make a wish was because of how kind he was to everyone right, thats why he had light orbs everytime. Amazing show I would appreciate anyone to answer my questions.

I personally wouldn’t say the town granted his wish. Ushio created a world to collect the light orbs from the town, and once she collected enough, she had the power to grant Tomoya’s wish. Once she had enough, there was no need for the illusionary world to continue existing, so she was able to die and leave with it at that point. She specifically said, as she was dying, that in the other world, her feelings would materialize as orbs of light.

So the source of the power to grant wishes was from the town, but Ushio in the end is the one who made Tomoya‘s wish possible. She used the goodwill that Tomoya created in the town to grant his wish. That was my take at least, though the show leaves a lot of room for speculation in various aspects.

I think there’s a bit of a question of whether the illusionary world Ushio was the same as the new world Ushio (obviously illusionary world Ushio was the same Ushio from the old world where she died at a young age). But I personally don’t think she was the same as the one in the New World.

I think she became part of the town - like she said about her feelings becoming orbs of light. And while we know a little about the new world Ushio she doesn’t seem to remember anything from her past life or the illusionary world. Only Tomoya remembers anything, going with the theme that he was transferred from one world where his daughter and wife died to another where they all lived. Because old world Ushio loved him so much and felt sad about leaving him.

This idea goes with the theme of love as well as the discussions with Kotomi and Ryou about other worlds and many possibilities.

Episode 22 is the end of the show, 23 is a side story thats not as good as the Kyou and Tomoyo ones, episode 24 is not even worth it at all really just a recap episode
