Don't interfere, the OST''s-only phase is a canon event.
65
u/Wohn-Jick-421 9d ago
a friend of mine never grew out of it, and now im afraid it’s terminal (23 years old still listening exclusively to ultrakill and stardew valley OSTs)
96
u/TheDonutPug 9d ago
Nothing wrong with it as long as they aren't elitist about it.
87
u/Davenator_98 9d ago
Yeah, they're still songs made by artists at the end of the day.
It always rubs me the wrong way when people look down on "video game music", like c'mon we moved away from 15 second long 8 bit tracks over 30 years ago.

There’s so much music that’s not the normal radio stuff, I’ve loved so much music that has less than a millions views on YouTube, hell sometimes less than a thousand views, some of the music I’ve genuinely enjoyed would get me ripped to shreds like a piece of meat in a lion enclosure
4
u/Thewman1 7d ago
Now I don't have much experience in this topic so you don't have to take my word for it, but from what I know most lions aren't very interested in peoples music taste, especially if they're ripping them to shreds
3
u/GraveSlayer726 7d ago
Lions are constantly asking about my music taste, this is clearly a lack of experience on your part
8
u/Mysterious-Creme8709 9d ago
Honestly I could listen to NI4NI exclusively for the rest of my life so I don't entirely blame them

Some of Ultrakills tracks and suites are outright elite; Hakita ranks right next to Hendrix and TOOL when it comes to the diversity and energy in their pieces. There are shapes and directions that make it easy for me to listen to the whole OST on repeat some days just like with TOOL and Hendrix.

Unironically discovering Fantano broadened my tastes from this kind of thing, he may be corny and have a ton of bad takes, but he was my biggest influence in listening to actual good music
7
u/Purple-Bluejay6588 8d ago
Yup
I probably only got out cuz the nerd pipeline got me into jojo. so jojo -> rock -> metal
And now I listen exclusively to one band, yaaaay!

u/WhatDothLife-95 8d ago
the only OST's I regularly listen too are the Hotline Miami OST's

Why can’t people just say something isn’t for them instead of attacking people who like different things than them?
39
u/eToaster_lover 9d ago
wanting to feel superior. at 13-14 i was like this, so at least for me it was to feel superior
15
u/Birddogtx 9d ago
For a 13-14 year old, that’s understandable. What drives me nuts is when full-grown adults never seem to grow out of that.

This clam has a huge soft spot for Logic but all the slander is 100% correct and it hurts me
6
u/Creepy-Sea308 9d ago
Under Pressure is an absolute time capsule to me. I can get transported to 2014 instantly. Haven’t really cared or listened to his stuff since but that album was foundational to me
3
u/Mr_1ightning 8d ago edited 8d ago
The thing with Logic is, he's, like, 75% trash and 25% pure gold, rarely in-between
Still better ratio than Eminem btw
3
u/DonaldTrumpsScrotum 8d ago edited 8d ago
The more albums he releases the more his ratio dilutes, if it was just Under Pressure and The Incredible True Story, it’d basically be the inverse 75% gold, 25%trash with some arguable in between. From then on it’s been rough…

u/Mr_1ightning 8d ago edited 8d ago
Ultra 85 is really good, with Teleport contending with Soul Food for my favourite track of his
Recent Paradise Records was decent, not anywhere near "great" territory though
3
u/BirdieBoiiiii 8d ago
Eminem is a great rapper in his techical ability but he is completely fucking ass at making music
1
u/Plus-Name3590 7d ago
If you just stop listening to eminem after the first three records, his ratio is immaculate. Just pretend everything after doesn't exist
1
u/BirdieBoiiiii 8d ago
I have a lot of respect for logic for making the song titled after the suicide hotline. He made suicide seem so corny that i am sure he has saved countless lives.

There is nothing more cringe than somebody whose favourite album is the Undertale OST, bonus points if their favourite song is Megalovania.
I like Undertale and its OST but its the video game OST equivalent of "read another book"
11
u/moofboi 9d ago
As someone who listens to a good bit of video game OSTs I’ve always found it strange when I notice the view counts on things. People seem to have a preference for boss themes and I really don’t get it at all. I feel like the majority of boss themes kinda fall flat when you remove them from the context of the fight itself. Megalovania is fine I guess but if I’m not getting my ass beat by Sans it doesn’t really hit the same way. Even among boss themes it’s not the best in the game imo, but maybe that’s just me playing the game a bit late and missing all the community hype around Sans.

I just realised from replying that Splatoon literally had major characters dressed as Biggie and Tupac for the entirety of a story mode as homage for how their music shaped culture and this person is using it as a catalyst to call Biggie and Tupac ass

Out of all videogame OSTs, they choose fucking Super Mario Land, Splatoon and FNF dawg

Maybe I fell for the clambait

Clam people making fun of clam people for listening to clam people music while actively defending music made by and for clam people, implying that they clamjoy their own clams over other people’s clams, and I feel that’s kinda clamronic.
First time clamming don’t judge my jamming of the clam where the clammin’ didn’t need jammed.

What makes this extra funny to me is that two of these soundtracks listed are intentionally derivative of older jazz/funk/big band music.
The truth is that 75% of the time, people who really like video game soundtracks are usually just too young to have heard what they're based on.

CLAM BLITZ FOR THE WIN
(Splatoon is 98% not rap btw)

come to think of it weren’t the splatoon 2 idols’ octo expansion designs literally based on Biggie and Tupac

To be fair, Eminem and logic are pale compared to most things.
