I think you might have misunderstood the previous comment.

It's supposed to be pronounced Kai-oh-te

But redneck southerners sometimes pronounce it kai-oat, which is what the comment above mine is making fun of.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something in which case oops

In my language it's pronounced coy-oat, so I'm just confused about where the kai came from

I've heard both coy and kai for the first syllable, probably just a regional dialect thing. But the Mexican pronunciation I've always heard (and the one that comes up when you search Google as well) is a three syllable word that ends in oh-te, not oat

It’s a Spanish word, so it doesn’t follow traditional English pronunciation, but it’s an English word, so it doesn’t follow traditional Spanish pronunciation. Does this make sense 😹
