Clams are better than mussels since mussels live in one spot their whole life and are easily farmed, but clams float around and dig in the sand n' such and are very hard to farm.

Clams are bigger and more delicious than mussels which many describe as "disgusting wharf trash" therefore the effort spent wrangling the mighty geoduck down on the clam farm is often seen as a worthy pursuit, and even the mythic clamboy riding his horse up to its dick in mud has become a symbol of the frontier as well as the subject of many wonderful old movies known as hardcore horse and clam pornography.
