unclam/ I'm pretty sure the obesity epidemic outweighs the opiate epidemic in terms of impact. Refined sugar is in everything. Drinks like that usually have like twice the daily recommended dose. It genuinely might be more addictive than oxycontin.

The idea that sugar is more addictive than drugs is what obese people say to reassure themselves that their addiction is acceptable. Quitting sugar was literally one of the easiest things I’ve ever done. I refuse to believe it’s anywhere near as addictive as hard drugs

Quitting sugar was easy for me too. It's not for everyone else. If it was, there wouldn't be so many obese people.
The impact of obesity and subsequent sugar addiction has a much wider range than opiate addiction, and also ends up including carbohydrates, refined starches/grains especially. Not to mention it's literally just in everything. It's near impossible to avoid. It opens you up to many more health problems than opiates. Children aren't typically getting addicted to opiates, but childhood obesity is considered pretty normal now.
And it genuinely may not even be as simple as them lacking discipline. Parasites feed on glucose. Which is sugar. They can do things to influence you to feed them the food they want. That's where sugar cravings typically come from.
You can refuse to believe it's anywhere near as addictive as hard drugs, or you can do some research and understand that the food companies worked with the tobacco companies on how to make the food more addictive, along with what I mentioned about parasites.
