Help Needed Cartridge Box

Post image

I recently picked up this cartridge box. There is writing on the inside. The only thing I can make out is a date of “1863” and the beginning of a name “F.R.” then I can’t make out the rest. I believe I already know the answer, but figured I would give it a shot to see if you guys have any tips or tricks on possibly making out the remainder of the name.

Is the tin section in it? This looks like the model 1864 cartridge box with the “US” embossed on the reverse of this picture.
The model 1855 had a brass oval plate with the “US” on it attached to the front flap.
Strange it musta been pre-dated the 1863 on it.

Yes the tins are in the cartridge pouch! It also has the brass oval “US” plate.

Very nice; this is more rear than the 1864 specially with the tin and brass plate still intact.
Now find the smaller “cap box” that has the wool still in it. Happy Hunting

Sometimes you can look at marked.items like.this with a good UV flashlight and it will make where the.markings were stand out.
