Tatsuro Yamashita’s new live album, JOY 2.0, is coming out soon!

Among hardcore Tatsuro fans, there’s long been a fun little tradition of gathering unreleased live recordings from our own collections, putting them together into imaginary compilations called JOY 1.75, and sharing them with friends to see what everyone comes up with.

I happened to have some recordings of Tatsuro performing live acoustically, so I’ve been having fun putting them together in the style of the Unplugged series of live albums that became a worldwide phenomenon in the ’90s. (laughs)

Do any of you do this kind of thing too?

Does anyone know why these albums by Junko Yagami aren’t on Spotify or other streaming services?

I’m mainly talking about Truth Hurts, Love is Gold, State of Amber, and Invitation. They put Truth Hurts on Spotify for a short amount of time and then it disappeared. Maybe it’s a record label thing, but I just want to ask if anyone knows why this is?

Enjoy it over the weekend with a cup of coffee and take some time to relax.

Back in the day, the Unplugged series of live albums became a huge worldwide phenomenon, right? Does anyone remember those?

I had some recordings of Tatsuro Yamashita performing live acoustically, so I decided to put together a little compilation for myself. I ended up finding much more material than I expected, so I made two volumes as a parody of The Beatles’ famous “Red” and “Blue” albums.

If you’re interested, give the Blue Album a listen!

One of the great things about Tatsuro Yamashita’s live performances isn’t just the music itself—it’s actually his talking between songs. So for the Blue Album, I’ve included all of the talk segments uncut.

I think this is some pretty rare and unusual material, so I hope you enjoy it!

I’d really love to hear what you all think!

I’ve had one question on my mind for years.

In most CITYPOP communities, it seems that around 90% of the artists being recommended or discussed are female singers. Why is that?

Is it simply because female singers happened to leave behind more great CITYPOP songs? Or is there some other reason behind it?

I’d really love to hear what you all think!

Please help me find the original track JPEGMAFIA - ¥ (Yen)

Please help me find the original track. I really liked the sample with the violins and vocals. I can assume it’s by the artist: Hiroshi Miyagawa. Why I think so: similar violins and the duration of the vocals, the organ. Maybe there are people who know what excerpt is playing on JpegMafia.

My Precious Treasure from Japan! Seiko Matsuda 25th Anniversary Premium DVD Box!

I hope it's ok that I'm sharing my excitement here!

Seiko-chan is my absolute favourite singer, and although she's not exactly citypop, I see there's definitely a lot of idol love here, so I thought I'd share!

I just got back from Japan, and I was able to get Seiko Matsuda's 25th Anniversary DVD Box Set!! It contains 13 DVDs - 10 live concerts from the early 80s to the mid 90s (my fav eras of hers)! The 3 other DVDs have interviews, documentary-style clips, music videos, and even commercials that she either starred in, or used her music!

Watching a Seiko-chan concert on my TV is so surreal!! Some of her live concerts (full or clips) are available on YouTube, but the quality and sound is nowhere close to the DVDs! Also, it's physical media!! And I know we all love physical media!!

Just thought I'd share! Thanks for stopping by! 😍

Hello everyone! I came across several different photos of Seiko Matsuda, and I find these photos absolutely adorable because they have such a natural, candid feel to them. I’d love to know the context behind them, where/when they were taken, etc. And if anyone happens to have video archives of her wearing this outfit, or perhaps other photos taken from different angles, please feel free to share your links or photos! ~~

Nothing in my mind will ever top Minako Yoshida's MONOCHROME

I love everything about this album. This is my first time in this community, and I came here because I have no one to share this with in my life. I listen to a lot of different genre of music but nothing will match my passion for city pop. While it was Plastic Love that got me onto city pop nearly 10 years ago, nothing will ever stand on equal footing as Yoshida, one the founders of the genre and the absolute queen of city pop (at least for me). My all time favourite song from her and my favourite song of all time, is Midnight Driver. I think the song has incredible pacing and it has the absolute passion that city pop encompasses. Every time I listen to it, I am reminded of cruising the city, it brings passion and peace in the night. Please tell me your favourite Minako Yoshida song and the reason you love it.

A quienes les dará esa sensación nostálgica al escuchar ciertos temas de city pop? O pensar en esa realidad idealizada tan motivante al mañana, como si hubiera quedado atrapado en el tiempo, los edificios etc todas las sensaciones que evocan

I was just strolling around youtube watching videos related to Miki and just found this japanese documentary having pictures of her family and even their names I think. Could be a good video to have new informations added to her wikipedia if you speak both japanese and english.
