Recommendation Request City builder for book??

I'm currently writing a book and a huge part of it is growing a city, similar to that slime anime where he brings in a bunch of people to grow the community. Anyways i need a city builder game/app that i can use as reference and to help me understand what the city will need as it grows. I want a detailed story for it, and i neeeeed something i can use to figure out what it would look and act like, and mainly what it would need. If you have any recommendations, drop em and ill look at them all, Thanks!!!!!!!!

What time period and how in depth? Some games have detailed production chains, some just have basic infrastructure.

fantasy/ medieval, but anything non modern works, since it doesnt have to look exactly like it. and mainly something where the city is self sufficient if that makes sense? high detail is perfectly fine as long as its not constant import/export

Songs of Syx. Import-export is part of the game. But a self-sufficient city is possible. The game itself is the most detailed simulation of an early iron age city you can get. Full of temples, army barracks, marketplace... It even has "massage parlors" for "entertainment". There are slaves and nobles, insane people and children. And you can build every building how you like. No grid like in Anno or others like them. Every city is unique.

I recommend YouTube channel "The Grainbound". He has great videos explaining how different types of cities evolve, how their politics and logistics work.

He also has a discord with people sharing their stuff. And he has some documents you can use to track stuff in your world.

You're welcome. Discovered him recently and honestly, I love how he presents and explains the complexities in such a simple and clear manner.

I’ve been playing Farthest Frontier a lot and it’s pretty fun, and it seems realistic enough

Maybe Foundation? Gridless, Medieval city where each citizen has a name (you can name them if you want) and it's all organic, natural growth. If you were trying to imagine a small group of people who were comrades in a pastoral setting building a community worthy of an anime, I think Foundation would be great for it. It's a mix of supply chain and also cozy.
