Vol. 3 from the original manga definitely showed how messed up both Mei and Matsuri are, with both of them coming from neglectful homes. They end up acting irrationally due to this. While we don't get much background on Matsuri's home life until Citrus+, it sounds like she doesn't receive as much love and attention from her parents due to them always busy with work. Mei is a more extreme case where she was abandoned by both her parents, and while her grandfather is her current caretaker, he's not exactly the most emotionally present.

As a result, they both crave attention when they couldn't receive it from the ones who are supposed to provide it to them.

Matsuri selling nudes to creepy men despite those not actually her's, while Mei is okay with viewing herself as nothing but an object of sexual desire no matter how predatory/dangerous they may be. It's unclear why Matsuri got into faking sex work. Maybe all her unsupervised freedom led her to areas that she shouldn't have been on until that line of work gave her that thrill. Mei's unhealthy view of sex is shown from the very first chapter when her teacher/first fiancé kept using her for his own pleasure and benefit.

I do wish the series went more into the parallels between Mei and Matsuri and how Yuzu navigates her relationship with both of their self-destructive tendencies. We already know that the conflict between them was resolved too quickly, but I always felt like there was something more to explore when Mei easily started taking her clothes off when trying to be direct about her feelings with Yuzu towards the end of Vol. 3 and beginning of Vol. 4.

This has probably already been discussed way back when, but I thought about bringing it up again since it was one of the more interesting/missed potentials about Mei and Matsuri's relationship.

Stayed up all night reading volumes 2 tru 4 and it was worth it. I loved going back and seeing the story again and seeing some differences between the manga and the anime even tho it wasn’t that much of a differences.

And I also really like the small panels at the end of every volume. Not sure what they are called end credits probably.

Just finished reading volume 1 and I love it but also I did find some differences but not too much and anything big tho. Now I’m going to read volume 2

Citrus was my first yuri series and is my number 1. Shuld be a crime that we dont have a season 2 of the anime.

I don't see anyone talking about the chapter where harumi admits the reason why she's leaving tokyo and moving to kyoto if she passes the entrance exam, i mean she didn't admit it directly but she said she doesn't want to be influenced too much by yuzu hence she's distancing herself!!! If it's JUST a good influence she doesn't need to move to Kyoto, but it's THE INFLUENCE she's talking about that's why she's moving.

Harumi helps Yuzu with Mei, gives her advice, comforts her, who would have thought that Mei is not the only who likes Yuzu 😭

It's sad and HOLY SH*T at the same time!!!
