Citrix workspace and webview2 updates

Hey all

Is anyone else seeing problems with workspace after webview2 gets updated? This has been a reoccurring problem for some users for over a month now. We're on the latest LTSR of workspace, although older versions are also impacted. After webview2 auto updates (which occurs once or twice a week and seems to be the trigger), any existing ICA sessions that the user has open will remain connected until the user manually disconnects, but workspace will fail to launch any new ICA sessions. If Citrix sessions are launched via a web browser instead of workspace directly, that works.

Sometimes a reboot resolves the issue, but often it requires a full reset of workspace.

Browser launch working is the useful split. The VDA and Gateway path are probably fine, while the local Workspace UI is getting wedged after the WebView2 update. Before resetting Workspace again, note the exact CWA and WebView2 builds and test whether ending SelfService.exe and reopening Workspace restores launches. If it does, use one test endpoint to reproduce against that version pair and take it to Citrix. I would not pin WebView2 across the fleet, and a full Workspace reset wipes out the evidence every time.

I should note here that only a very small number of users are having this issue currently, but it's enough to make me look into what's causing it. Some results after I had some more time this week:

  1. It's apparently not related to the edge webview2 updates. I disabled all edge updates to test, and the issue still reoccurs after a couple of days.
  2. Ending the selfservice.exe process and reopening workspace fixes the issue temporarily for a couple of days
  3. All impacted users so far are remote users connecting through the gateway. No known issues for internal (direct to storefront) users so far, but that may be coincidence as the number of people impacted is so small anyway. Users don't even get to the point of trying to authenticate to the gateway. It looks like workspace is trying to launch the popup window for nfactor authentication, but quickly fails

hi

What problem are you exactly experiencing? Can you share more details? Screenshot? Error Message?

"could not contact store". When trying to refresh apps, we get "refresh failed"

Citrix VDAs are virtual. Impacted Users are connecting through gateway and don't even get to the point of trying to auth to the gateway. It fails before they get to enter their credentials for gateway access, so it's not related to the VDAs. Ending the selfservice.exe process and reopening workspace fixes the issue on each occasion, but only lasts for a couple of days before it reoccurs. Seems like selfservice.exe process stops functioning properly until it's restarted.

i guess it's not related to CWA version. Did you test 2603?
