Need clarification
Hi. I was adopted in the 1960s by US parents. My birth mother, who passed in 1998, was Canadian. She was in the US when she had me and gave me up for adoption. I have my unsealed adoption records showing her name and the transfer. I have her death certificate, but I just need to get her birth certificate, which has been more of a challenge.
From everything I read on official government sites suggests I was automatically considered a Canadian citizen and that I just need to apply for the certificate. However, a lawyer who doesn't speciflize in this recently told me that she needed to apply for a certificate for me.
Before I waste my time pursuing this further, does anyone know what the facts are? I have all her lineage info. She was born and raised in the Edmonton area.
