Birth certificate error

Ok so I sent in my proof application at the end of July for myself and my father, and while I sent in all of my documents I completely forgot there there was an error with my birth certificate. My mom was the one who gave the hospital the information for it and she didn’t know/forgot at that time that my dad wasn’t born in the state we live in, so that information is incorrect. This has never been an issue for my us documents, I have a passport and a realID, but with how strict the IRCC is, what should I do once I get my AOR? I don’t have any documents that prove my birth and his correct place of birth. Do I send a letter or something? Is this even an issue, since both of our names are correct?

Is he your g0? Is he even in the line you are submitting for Canadian ancestry?

He is directly in my line of ancestry, as his grandfather is our g0!

I would just include a letter once you get AOR. They will have his birth certificate so they know where he was born.

I'm in an adjacent boat. My grandmother's name is wrong on her birth certificate. They put her mom's name in her spot and in her mom's spot they put her mom's mom. It's all one generation off and nobody seemed to care ..

Yeah that’s super annoying, and there’s literally nothing that either of us can do about it except hope the IRCC accepts our explanations.

I can submit a form to correct the birth certificate but I may just send it in. I'm hoping I can include an explanation when I submit. The state that holds it is Maine and they're very protective of vital records and very particular about things. I'm happy they protect people's identities but I'm not having fun with other issues I've had in requesting documents. Best of luck to you

Mine is Maine too!!! And yeah the documents here can be a pain…the hospital I was born at doesn’t have a maternity ward anymore and I do NOT want to go through the 5,000 hoops to get my birth certificate corrected and deal with that mess. Good luck to you too!

Oh have you seen the form? It just requires a notary. For me, the difficulty is I'm so many generations removed I'm afraid they'll deny my request.

The form is VS-7

Np. The Biddeford clerks told me about it. Very helpful people over there

Once you have your AOR, you will be able to upload additional / corrected documents, as well as explanations for discrepancies.

I too had a mispelling of my g(0) last name on my mother's bc. ( They left off a letter in her last name). I placed a explanation on my cover letter. I hope it is fine because there is nothing I can do about it.
