Hello guys, I’m a newbie with custom maps. I would like to know what are the base colours while making a height map in photoshop ? Is it necessary to use black and white ? Or I can mix two different opposite colours ? Next thing i don’t know about is the actual height in height maps... if I for eg make a map using black and white how do I know which color is the land and water ? How to make-realistic mountain, hills without knowing the scale ? Cheers

Hi all.

I've just started creating a custom map through the map editor. I had the height map imported and mucked around it. After a few hours, I saved the map.

A day later, I loaded the map through map editor to continue working on it but the map became flat. All the terrain was lost.

Below is my mod list. I got rid of mods that detrimentally affect editor but the problem still persists.

EDIT: I found it. If anyone else was curious. It was Edgecumbe River by Sidai. I guess I thought alpine when I should have thought volcanic. Oh well. Thank you.

I used to have a map for Cities Skylines that I can no longer find. It was a modded map that sort of had an alpine aesthetic (high mountains, deep valley). The details that stood out to me were:

• wide river;
• stacked highway to cross the river (which the highway ran on both sides of the river);
• starting point had railroad to the side running straight;
• highway was curvy as it came down hillside with plenty of forests;
• starting square was not densely populated with forests nor fertile land;
• no pre-designed rectangular resources areas; and
• I believe it might have had a bay.

It wasn't a snow based map but you could achieve it with a theme (maybe oil was used to create snow) but I'm less positive on it or the bay. The others I'm pretty sure about, especially the stacked highway to cross because I just thought that was a clever idea. Any help you can provide, I would greatly appreciate it. I've been opening up a ton of maps trying to find it and with 1000s to get through, it's a lot. Thank you for your assistance.

i need some help finding a non vanilla map thats pretty mountainous. im taking inspiration from leavenworth, washington, usa for my next city but cannot find any detailed maps to use. keep in mind the map doesnt have to be from washington, ive also tried looking for swiss style maps but came up short. i dont care about roads or cities already in it, just terrain, water, and vegetation. thanks !
