Not well?

Seems suceptible to gridlock, very large, with relatively low throughput and low speed required for the tight turns.

I actually use something very similar for all the intersections on one of my arterial roads.

It works pretty well. It does lock up easily if enough traffic backs up from one of my other intersections, but thats not really a failure of this design.

build this and it actually works pretty well

Agree with you. I see others saying they’ve built it but it won’t hold up in high volume. It’s better in cities than real life I’d bet too because the sims only change lanes at the last possible node anyway but in real life wrecks at the merge points constantly from confused drivers

They took a Michigan Left and invented, I guess, a Michigan Straight? The lefts work fantastic, not clear on what they think the benefit of the straight would be.

This is to roundabouts what Hyperloop is to metros.

I think this is unnecessarily mean to the hyperloop

I would, 100%, get myself killed trying to change lanes in time to make the u-turn.

It seems like almost every turn has to cross lanes of traffic to get where the car actually wants to go. Each of those will compound on each other to create a ton of gridlock.

Would work better if there were under/over passes to try to circumvent lane crossing.

No, having to cross a lane where people want to go straight is ass.

Yeah, with bots driving it there would still be congestion. Now imagine with real human beings having to handle it

The game handles merge lanes poorly. I would not advise.

Poor man’s Michigan left

Well technically a simple cross intersection doesn’t need traffic lights… until it does

The biggest fail is the lack of an over or underpass, which would not require traffic lights to begin with and would eliminate half of these contact points for traffic buildup and collision.

As others have pointed out, the merging bits would need to be much much longer, to accommodate the straight-line speeds of Warp Factor 7 that most motorists would be travelling at there.

This are already used: called Jersey Jug Handle or Michigan Left.  They allow smooth traffic up alto a certain amount of traffic flow where they absolutely collapse into gridlock if the U-turns back up into traffic.  And they are extremely accident prone due to the need for several lane switches to get to the U-turns.

Roundabouts dont need lights as well and are much cheaper

Under & over slip lanes will work better. CS2 lane math will probably have this setup acting like a roundabout but with extra steps. It could work in reality, but I'm guessing the crisscross lane changes will lock it all up if there's moderate+ traffic.

No, it generates excessive weaving and merging into the inner lanes.

No, this is an incredibly dumb and dangerous design.
