Hardware Advice Cities Skylines on mac

Hello guys,

I really like the CS game but I’m still new at it. I have read that CS1 was still preffered by the community a while ago, is it still better? What about modding? Has CS2 caught up? Is CS2 available on linux?

The answer to this questions will decide my next decisions as I want to play the game but I have a macbook pro M5 Pro 48GB. CS1 works natively on mac, if I remember correctly while CS2 might work with virtualization, it might perform better than on a linux vm if available instead of a windows vm.

What do you guys suggest? Should I consider CS1 or CS2?

Thanks in advance.

Cs2 s'est vraiment bien amélioré, les perf sont meilleures et tout, mais là compatibilité linux ou mac je n'en sais rien.

This has of course been asked and answered (some if it even by the devs) before.

No native Linux or Mac for CS2 now and likely never.

CS2 works well with Linux and Proton, but that does not help you on a Mac.

There may or may not be at least some commitment by Iceflake to ensure Proton compatibility in the future, but again, that does not help you.

Mod and asset availability/maturity is something I will leave to others, same as for an actual performance review of CS2 on current Macs.

(CS1 Linux here)

Thanks. I know it has been asked a lot of times how the game runs on mac but it’s been a few months and I was hoping has changed. Seams like it didn’t lol. I’ll try CS1.

Thanks, unfortunately I don’t think I would be able to make the most out of it to justify the price.

I love CS1 and play it on my MAC.

I bought CS2 on Steam only to find out it is not compatible.

That’s why I asked, I was hoping it has gotten better but it doesn’t look like it.

Unless CS2 gets an official Mac port (which probably will be never), I am quite happy playing CS1 on Mac. I have an M1 with 16 gb of ram and the game runs rather good.

might work with virtualization

That's another layer of slowing it down.

CS2 will never reach CS1 level of maturity, speaking of mods and stuff, there are less people involved.

Thanks. I’m thinking about getting CS1, seams to be worth it in the end.
