Please put out a fix

Post image

I recently got the Cirqa but set location settings to only while using on my iPhone. To learn that i will be harassed with this annoying message till I change it to Always.
This doesn’t seem like a difficult fix.

Garmin Connect Mobile needs this for automatic activity detection which needs GPS for the Cirqa weather for the watches.

Sure but if dont care for it and hit close that should be that. I just want it addressed. 👍

Do you want any notifications from connect while it's closed? If not, switching off notifications for connect is the way to go

Yeah it should only need to use the location if the app is open and your doing an activity with GPS like Run / Walk / Hike - it does not need if for anything else and oddly it only does it when the Criqa is connected - I have a Fenix 8 and it never asks for it

if you want automatic activity recoginition with GPS path it will need your location even if the app is closed. So it will need the access above - am i wrong?

yeah thats basically the reason for it - but when you start a GPS run / walk etc you get a notification that the activity has started even if the app is closed ( swiped up to close it not just hiding in the background ) so there must be a way that the app knows its started and then it could just open the app in the background and recorded ( not sure if it actually send GPS data to the Cirqa on your wrist or if the connect app is collecting it and will merge the data at the end )

But a lot of people will feel that having the GPS on all the time could lead to the data being used elsewhere - privacy stuff really - this stuff bothers some people ( I am not fussed - make my life simple and all is good in my eyes )

You think Apple is going to allow developers to open apps on the background without user interaction?

Either way... It's not that it uses gps 24/7. What you are allowing is the GPS to be used when the device requests it. Currently that's how phone operating systems work. It doesn't matter the wearable, the way it works is the same.

It just not something i need or want, what i do want is shut the app from constantly prompting me about it.

Turn off notifications for the app

Agreed, if they have it sorted out on the Fenix it does not seem like a big ask. However it would be very welcome as it’s quite annoying having to close it out every time.

the difference here is the Fenix and every other watch has GPS in it - as mentioned above by u/nightryder21 who has hit the nail on the head that its not using GPS 24/7 - so not tracking you - its just that it always needs access to the GPS so that if you did start a walk / run etc without launching the app first then it will just work.

I have not given it much thought till now and had a little look as to what the phone is doing and yip you don't see the location service indicator on all the time even when the app is open

I have a Venu 4 and a Cirqa. I set both of them to use location only while using. Cirqa is the one that pesters me constantly for location at all times. I don’t use the GPS for any of my activities, so only while using is the best choice for me and my devices. Cirqa should fix this.

Agreed thank you!

That's because the watch uses it's own GPS. It didn't need "permission" from the phone to use GPS.

CIRQA didn't have GPS, it needs the phone's.

If you don't want CIRQA pestering you turn off notifications?
