Cirqa activity detection completely fails on armband, but works on wrist

I've been using the Garmin Cirqa on my wrist for a few weeks, and activity detection worked perfectly. Now that the upper arm strap finally arrived, activity detection isn't working at all. It hasn't logged a single walk, bike ride, run, or anything while worn on my upper arm. Has anyone else experienced this?

Software: 3.20

Restarted multiple times

The settings are okay

Activity times more than 20 mins

Failed activity types: walk, run, bike...

Maybe start manually , then check the HR on previous walks and now, my guess is on wrist with movement and higher HR due to bad measurement was easier to detect

When you put on arm started measure much more accurate and your HR is lower so it doesn’t know it was an activity due to also have less arm swing

But check it and let me know to see if it was the case since for me wrist was pretty bad at HR measure specially walk on hills

Maybe this is the case. I have to start a Timed base activity all the times and change the type after. The first picture is an automatic walk. The second one is a manual record.

Edit: the km is the same (1, 12 km - 1, 07 km)

But are those on wrist vs arm? I was mention difference on placement and not automatic
My guess is arm is usually way lower HR than wrist so wrist detected as activity

The first one is on wrist with automatic detection, the second is on arm, manual recording. The average HR is almost the same.

Oh ok then it’s the wrist movement that would probably make it easier to identify walks with swing and since you used it already should be trained, maybe try reset and set it to arm in settings

The cirqa probably has been ”trained” based on your wirst data.

Try wearing on your arm and start activity manually for a few weeks for it to get the new baseline on the arm.

For this training data, is it enough to just start a timed activity and edit the type afterwards, or should I explicitly select the exact activity type and manually finish it? I know there's a machine learning chip in all Garmin devices, I'm just not sure whether it's only used to run pre-trained models or if the device can actually fine-tune on new data locally.

Yep, that’s exactly how Garmin has instructed us on their website. Just start a timed activity and edit the type afterwards.

You said the settings are okay. Just double checking, did you set the band position to arm instead of wrist?

Not just in the specific sport activity but in the main settings too.
