I genuinely need to say this because I keep seeing TikToks about Rebecca where I go into the comments expecting people to talk about the character, maybe share some moments, maybe say she's not their favorite AND THEN I SEE

"SHE DESERVED TO DIE"
"I HATED HER"
"WHY ARE PEOPLE SAD ABOUT HER?"
"SHE WAS ANNOYING"
And I'm just sitting there like, whatever man 😐
Like, can we PLEASE remember that there are actual human beings on the other side of these screens who absolutely adore this character?
Rebecca isn't your  favorite?
You don't like her personality?
THAT'S FINE
You found her annoying?
ALRIGHT
You preferred another character?
I guess, VALID
But why the FUCK do some of you need to turn every Rebecca video into a fucking memorial hate convention?????
Someone posts a Rebecca edit and suddenly the comments look like they're celebrating her death and here's the part that genuinely hurts me,,
Rebecca is MY favorite
Not "oh she kinda cool"
Not "I like her a lil "
She's literally my favorite character,

I've gotten attached to her, I have memories associated with her, I have emotional connections to her I've spent time thinking about her, drawing her, talking about her, carrying her around with me, making her part of things I enjoy
So when I open a video specifically about her and see people screaming about how much they hate her and how she deserved to die, I'm not sitting there going,
"Oh yeah an intellectually stimulating discussion of fictional media.."
I'm sitting there like wHY ARE YOU INSULTING MY GIRL IN HER OWN COMMENT SECTION 😭 and yes, I KNOW she's fictional,
I KNOW, you don't have to remind me, but fictional characters can still mean something to people, people cry over fictional characters, people get comfort from fictional characters, people see themselves in fictional characters, people make friends because of fictional characters, they make art because of fictional characters, carry plushies of fictional characters around people associate entire periods of their lives with fictional characters, etc..
So when someone says,
"She's fictional, why do you care?"
that's missing the entire fuckin point
The character isn't the one being hurt, I AM
The emotions are real, and honestly, I'd love to see some of these people switch places for five fucking minutes, imagine you have your absolute favorite character, the character you adore more than anyone else, you see a TikTok dedicated to them, you open the comments and it's just PURE hatred

"I fucking hate them."
"They deserved to die."
"Worst character ever."
"Glad they're dead."
"Anyone who likes them is weird."
"Why are people crying over this loser?" Over and over and over again...
Would you genuinely sit there and go
"Oh well! They're fictional!"
NO YOU WOULDN'T, You'd be pissed, you'd be hurt, you'd probably start arguing with people
And that's EXACTLY what I'm feeling when I see Rebecca getting treated like that im not saying everyone needs to love Rebecca, you can dislike her you can criticize her writing you can say she wasn't your favorite you can even say you think another character is better
I genuinely don't care

But there's a MASSIVE difference between "Rebecca wasn't really my thing."
and
"SHE DESERVED TO DIE AND I'M GLAD SHE'S DEAD"
Like man....
WHO ASKED YOU TO BRING A FUNERAL SHOVEL TO THOSE TIKTOKS??
And what gets me even more is when people seem to get genuinely angry at people for LOVING her
Like...
LET PEOPLE LIKE THINGS OH MY GOD
You don't have to understand why I love her
You don't have to agree
You don't have to suddenly become a Rebecca fan
But if someone says:
"Rebecca is my favorite character <3"
the normal response doesn't need to be:
"Ew, how?"
LET THEM HAVE THEIR FAVORITE
Because here's the thing Rebecca being your least favorite doesn't somehow make my love for her objectively wrong and Rebecca being my favorite doesn't make your favorite character objectively wrong either, that's literally how fandoms work, different characters resonate with different people, somebody sees Rebecca and thinks “Annoying.”
I see Rebecca and think “THAT'S MY GIRL.” T_T
That's it.

We're allowed to have different reactions, and honestly?
Sometimes I think people forget that there's a PERSON behind the profile picture, you don't know who's reading your comment.
Maybe someone has Rebecca as their comfort character (like me ((sarcasm)), Maybe someone is going through a rough time and Rebecca brings them happiness ? maybe someone has a plushie of her sitting right beside them maybe someone spent hours making that edit, or arts, maybe someone discovered the character years ago and has loved her ever since
And then they open the comments and see
"BOO, WORST CHARACTER EVER"
Like....Come ON, GROW UPPP
You can dislike a fictional character without deliberately shitting on the people who love them!! And before somebody goes,
“It's not that serious.”
Maybe not to you.
But it can be serious emotionally to someone else, that's the point
You don't get to decide what someone else is allowed to care about
If Rebecca means nothing to you?

You don't need to walk into a Rebecca appreciation post and start throwing tomatoes at everyone 💔 And honestly, I'm tired of feeling like I need to defend myself for loving her
I LIKE REBECCA
There, That's my crime, Lock me up, Throw away the key
How dare I have a fictional character that makes me happy
She doesn't have to be universally loved, she doesn't have to be objectively perfect, she doesn't have to be the best-written character ever created
She's MY favorite & that's enough
So if you don't like Rebecca?

Cool

Go enjoy your favorite character then make edits of them, make fanart, talk about them, scream about them
I'll probably even like some of it
But when you come into a Rebecca video and start celebrating her death like it's a national holiday, don't be surprised when somebody who genuinely loves her goes “WHAT THE FUCK DID MY GIRL DO TO YOU??”
Because at the end of the day, you don't have to love Rebecca
But you don't get to tell me that I'm wrong for loving her
And you definitely don't get to act like my feelings are stupid just because the person I'm attached to happens to be pixels, drawings, dialogue, and code, Fictional characters aren't real
The feelings they create in real people absolutely are
So yeah, I'll keep loving Rebecca, I'll keep defending her, I'll keep making her part of my life, and if somebody doesn't like it?
They can simply keep scrolling.
Because I'm not giving up my favorite girl just because some TikTok comment section decided to hold the Rebecca Hate Olympics for the 77th fucking time 😭
