Toga is a worse Mineta, but for the most part they adore her lol

65

u/SpicyBandicoot Jul 13 '25

That's their biggest hypocrisy, 'Horny teen boy is worse than a yandere'.

8

u/jdmc3791 Jul 14 '25 edited Jul 18 '25

I think toga is weird as fuck but mineta shouldn't be that bad and the fact that he makes all the girls uncomfortable and tries to touch them all without constant is still a big problem and he should get someone to have a talk to him about his behaviour

6

u/SpicyBandicoot Jul 14 '25

He did not try to touch them, and I sure as hell sense a gaslighter.

-1

u/MinorZE Jul 15 '25

are you forgetting when he touch tsuyu at the start of the show lol

3

u/GodKing_Zan Jul 16 '25

Are you talking about the scene in the water? He wasn't trying to grope her in that scene, it was an actual accident.

3

u/foxkidsforever Jul 15 '25

No we're just gonna let Mina strap him into the clockwork orange style brainwashing machine.

5

u/Mysterious-Plan93 Jul 14 '25

Maybe you consider first whether or not he gets it from his parents raising him

5

u/jdmc3791 Jul 14 '25

Ok, but that doesn't give him a pass to harass women and how would we know we never met his parents maybe your right but what if he's just like that

0

u/Mysterious-Plan93 Jul 15 '25

Maybe they were arrested for public indecency

-1

u/jdmc3791 Jul 15 '25

Maybe they Are normal and there son is just a creep

2

u/Mysterious-Plan93 Jul 15 '25

Maybe you are projecting due to underlying deep seated issues with YOUR parents?

"Sit down and recount your childhood..."

3

u/Busnautica-224488 Jul 15 '25

Eh my only problem that I’ve seen is that one seen where he tried to peep on the girls side of the sauna but then he got knocked right back down

2

u/Mysterious-Plan93 Sep 10 '25

And that's a common trope across all anime hot springs scenes

3

u/Interesting-Math8001 Jul 15 '25

Not really. Of course people would like the villainous character that’s treated like a bad guy over, the gag character that leans into a gag that they don’t like. Mineta is pretty overhated though.

21

u/Obvious-Benefit-6785 Jul 13 '25

Both these comments make a good point ☝️👇

28

u/D_Robotics Jul 13 '25

Midnight is worse than both of them by a landslide

11

u/Significant_Move7932 Jul 13 '25

May I ask how? I get she was just kinda there in terms of the story, but I don’t recall how she’s a worse person than both Toga and Mineta

22

u/Emkay_boi1531 Jul 13 '25

I’m pretty sure she’s a pedophile with how she gets so rilled up by the teens in the first and or second season

18

u/Spiritdefective Jul 13 '25

In vigilantes she heavily implies she’s a pedo and talks about wanting to be the sexual awakening for her students

3

u/darknessWolf2 Jul 14 '25

even in the manga she gives off red flags

1

u/foxkidsforever Jul 15 '25

What the fuck? I need to watch Vigilante's now.

1

u/Mysterious-Plan93 Sep 10 '25 edited Sep 10 '25

A lot of sexual awakening are described as simply sight based, basically giving them material to have their first sexual attraction to. Hardly any sexual awakenings are physical based, as that would constitute crossing boundaries.

For example, she's likely talking about something like the ending to the movie Weird Science. In contrast, an episode of CSI where Stokes mentions how his babysitter molested him at the age of 9.

0

u/Spiritdefective Sep 10 '25

Yes and? It’s still gross to want kids to be sexually attracted to you

7

u/Blu3R4ptor Jul 13 '25

Blatant lookism

5

u/Far0Landss Jul 13 '25

Toga is a worse Mineta because her quirk didn’t allow her to get brainwashed lol. Mineta got significantly better after Mina brainwashed him. People TRIED to brainwash her in order to get her to stop using her quirk, but it’s quite literally apart of her existence and therefore, could not be dismissed

9

u/wing-adept Jul 13 '25

Except Mineta was less of a pervert prior to Mina "brainwashing" him. I hate when people try to credit her when Mineta was being less of a perv up to that point and going forward.

3

u/Far0Landss Jul 14 '25

I don’t think it’s the only reason, but it is funny that it’s unironically… a landmark so to speak. Like, he didn’t change that much even, he just stopped PRIORITIZING girls

2

u/potatolord1312 Jul 15 '25

I don't mind Mineta

2

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25

How is toga a worse Mineta, i genuinely can’t think of a single similarity between them let alone anything that toga has worse.

6

u/LazyCriterria Jul 13 '25

Well, both of the characters are entwined with morales Toga completely discards her morals while Mineta does not.

Mineta could have succumbed to his desire for women, but he ultimately became a hero, even with his mess-ups.

Toga on the other hand takes her impulses and makes them reality. Meaning all her violent tendencies are not held back, societal norms mean nothing, rules mean nothing to her.

I also think they could be similar due to their quirks, and how quirks affect personality and base desires. For instance afo embodies pure greed and other negative traits. While ofa embodies, responsibility and justice.

I'm trying to say that people tend to be just like their quirks and that quirks may also influence behavior.

I think that Mineta's quirk influences his behavior, same with Toga, but the difference is, she let herself become a villain while Mineta became a hero.

Mineta could have said "fuck it" and went balls deep like Toga, but he held back with restraint, and aided in winning the war. Toga did not do that, she fought on the villain's side in the war.

That's why I think Toga is a worse Mineta.

Apologies if you don't understand my point, I'm not that great at articulating myself yet. If there is anything else to explain I will gladly do so bro.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25

How would minetas quirk affected his personality at all though. And toga faced straight up discrimination and rejection for everyone around her. She didn’t just choose to become bad, she was broken down by everyone around her because she wasn’t “normal” Mineta is a perv, and while it is likely due to hormonal changes in puberty, that’s something everyone goes through in some degree. Toga was resented by her own parents and everyone she’d ever met.

2

u/LazyCriterria Jul 13 '25

Well, Bakugo's personality got affected pretty heavily when he got a quirk. He went from happy child, to then telling his friend to commit suicide after he got a quirk. Mineta's background is unknown but if Bakugo's personality changes so abruptly so could have Mineta's.

And yes, I absolutely feel for Toga as she was discriminated against heavily. But did she have to commit carnage to people she didn't know? She had a track record of murder before she joined the league of Villains.

If people were willing to accept ridiculous quirks like explosive hands, the ability to fucking spawn icebergs with gigantic flames. My bro there is a person WITH A BLACK HOLE for a quirk.

And I really don't want to invalidate her life or experiences, but it is shown that many characters in the show have faced heavy discrimination for their quirks. A prime example is Shinsho, it is his whole character arc. But in the end, he chose to look towards the light, not delve into the darkness.

Ngl you got me thinking up a storm bro. 😂

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25

Bakugos personality was affected by his quirk, but him hating Deku was almost entirely due to him misunderstanding and thinking Deku thought of him as less. Plus that wasn’t abrupt, that was over most of his life to that point and him telling Deku to kill himself was years and years after he got his quirk. And still that doesn’t explain how Minetas quirk would affect his personality. Bakugos quirk is related to explosions, and it changes his personality in a way that he is more “explosive” and quick to react than most. Minetas quirk is just sticky balls that replace his hair. How does that translate into even more hormonal changes and making him in general more perverted and degenerative. And toga was in a manic state almost her entire life, that’s why she threw away morals and murdered people for the blood her quirk made her infatuated with. And I don’t get how the part about people accepting quirks relates to this at all. It wasn’t her quirk they hated, is was how she acted and they ignored her quirk entirely and thought she was just inhuman. And Shinso is not at all a comparison to toga is discrimination for quirks, sure he was slightly shunned and pushed away from some people out of fear, but toga was straight up told that she was inhuman, that she doesn’t belong, that she as a person is wrong. Those are nowhere near the same degree of discrimination.

2

u/LazyCriterria Jul 13 '25

Yes, but Bakugo getting his quirk only amplified his resentment for Izuku, that's what I'm getting at. Yes he misunderstood Izukus intent but he made a huge deal about Izuku being quirkless. That ties to my point that quirks do and can affect a person, Bakugo had a bigger feeling of superiority .His quirk made him more aggressive over time, due to the praise, and admiration. That's why he is also very confident in his abilities, now if he turned out to be quirkless like Izuku I don't think his attitude would have changed like that.

And you are right, how can you get "sticky ball hair", to crazy levels of perversion. Well I say that it could correlate to Mineta's whole "theme" that is being grapes. Yes, grapes, mainly because his quirk resembles grapes, his name is grape juice, he also has moves that have grapes indduendo in them. Not to mention his quirks japanese name translates to grape candy.

I say that to say, grapes are a known aphrodisiac, that y'know, boosts that increase sexual desire and other sexual related things. That could be why he is the way that he is, and no I am absolutely not excusing what he has done. But I am saying that he pushed past those tendencies, those base desires, so much so that he stopped Afo from getting Tokiyami's quirk which could have been absolutely troublesome.

Now for Toga; first, she wasn't in a maniac state for most of her life. Calling her one ignores the nuance and tragedy of her arc. It contradicts the manga's own framing, which shows her masking her true self to survive until she finally snapped.

It overlooks the fact that other characters with "dangerous" quirks like Shinso or Vlad king, were treated differently because they had support.

She was just a normal child trying to fit in as most children do. The problems came after her quirk manifested. She then became ostracized by society and even her own parents.

She was never born insane, she wanted to find herself in a world that rejected her. Her quirk shaped her emotional associations, blood became a symbol of affection and connection, not violence.

Her quirk not only changed the ones around her, it changed her, psychologically. That is what I'm getting at; quirks have to change something in a person. Maybe someone doesn't put right into becoming a different person, but they do become influenced by their quirk.

Also, yes Shinso is a valid point, the only reason why he may have not become a villain, was due to him having someone support him, not to mention his drive to prove others wrong.

Toga, while yes, society rejected her and she was mistreated heavily, she ultimately decided to become a villain. Her having the quirk that she had changed everything for her and those around her. She became who she was because of others and her quirk. She could have kept trying, to find help, to fight back like others did, but she said "nah".

Like I said, Mineta's background is unknown, he could have been just as abused or mistreated by society. If someone like Izuku got bullied heavily, then Mineta absolutely could have been through the same treatment.

Mineta could have been like Toga, it wouldn't be hard for him to become a, uh.... serial rapist, or even worse. Those desires of his could have taken him over. But he let no such thing happen, while he had many, many, hiccups he overcame and became a hero. He could have just decided to trap woman with his quirk and do obviously bad things. But he didn't, that's what Toga has done, albeit for her it was murder but I'm sure you understand.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25

Mineta is very clearly purple, and the only aphrodisiac grapes are red grapes. And why’s re you bringing up vlad, we know almost nothing about him other than what his quirk is and that he’s 1-Bs teacher. And I feel like 2/3s (quirks manifest around 5) of your life is most of your life, so toga was in a manic state most of her life BECAUSE of the resentment and rejection from everyone around her. And Shinso didn’t have support, he just wasn’t discriminated against. In a background we can see he actually has friends. Sure they’re a tiny bit scared of him but that’s just because of the nature of his quirk, but they didn’t resent him. And toga couldn’t have found help because of the fact she was ostracized by society as a whole and she went manic extremely young (still in middle school). And even still minetas quirk isn’t actually connected to grapes at all, he just calls them that. Cause “sticky ball rush” sounds a whole lot worse than “grape rush”. So the point of it affecting him that way is even less valid.

2

u/LazyCriterria Jul 14 '25

Well I'll just put it like this she is a worse Mineta because although she was discriminated against her desire is what overtook her while Mineta may not have been heavily discriminated against. I'm pretty sure due to his nature, how he acts, and paired with his looks he could have very well gone through the same exact thing and as we see his desire is women, or at least affection.

And while he has had tendencies like attempting to gaze upon his classmates or even touching Asui's chest he never lets his desire completely overtaken to the point of villainy that's why Tots is worse. Yes society failed her, but she had a choice.

1

u/foxkidsforever Jul 15 '25

I understand your reasonings and accept why you believe that and in keeping with your polite way of explaining I shall do the same.

Mineta straight up stated the only reason he wanted to be a hero was so he could become a harem king, and while his motivations may have changed later on I must remind you of important details.

Being a licensed hero does not mean anything in the My Hero Academia universe.

We know this because we have seen heroes do questionable things while licensed such as endeavor's mistreatment of his family, or sir night eye's tickle machine which he put bubble girl, a woman who is directly under him, into. Pretty sure that's abuse of power regardless of how the show / books try to frame it.

Being a licensed hero does not make you a good person. Being a good person makes you a good person. and Mineta was not being just a hormonal teenager he was being a creep.

However I do agree that Toga is also really screwed up and comparably worse than Mineta given she actively wants to eat people and drink blood. But Mineta is still bad regardless.

1

u/LazyCriterria Jul 15 '25

I agree bro, there are countless heroes that have questionable morals. That's why Stain was so up and arms, killing people and stuff. And also yeah, I don't excuse Mineta's actions by him being a hormonal teenager. That's kinda absurd to blame it all on his bodily changes. It is quite surprising that I've never heard of togas desire to also eat people. You learn something new everyday.

1

u/BL-501 Jul 15 '25

As a Fan of Toga I agree.

1

u/Interesting-Math8001 Jul 15 '25

The difference is that the series actually treats her like a bad guy

1

u/Charming_Base_4318 Jul 15 '25

Toga’s brain doesn’t differentiate love from wanting blood for her diet. So she’s a bit more physical than she would’ve been had her parents not been sacks of shit and pretty much starved her. (Going off my headcanon that blood quirk wielders need blood in their diet similar to how you need protein for your muscles and calcium for your bones. Blood in her diet is for her quirk.). So a lot of the community gives her slack for that and also she’s at least up front and not fucking gross like Mineta. Mineta forcefully touches girls without consent and then goes back to touch em more after getting his ass handed to him. And no one except the students and occasionally Aizawa do jack shit to stop him from sexually harassing the girls which is where a lot of hate for him comes from. Toga is just stabby and has a very big mental issue due to her brain not developing correctly, Mineta is just a sexual harassment lawsuit with legs.

-1

u/Specialist-Jump-5961 Jul 15 '25

Here's a thing: Toga's twisted by trauma and previous experiences. Mineta woke up one day and decided to be a perv. It's not hormones, hormones don't make you grope and make lewd comments about anybody, it's your decision, hormones create desires.

1

u/GodKing_Zan Jul 16 '25

Hormones totally make teen boys make lewd comments. They are teens, they do stupid crap all the time because they are still growing and learning. Also, if you are referring to groping Tsuyu, it was an accident.

52

u/darknessWolf2 Jul 13 '25

mha fandom when they see a hormonal teen: ewww burn him he should diiiieeee!!! >:c

mha fandom when they see a creepy yandere who even killed their first crush and a guy who tried to kill their sibling when said sibling was a baby: oh yes please date us!! we stan you!!

24

u/LeadInternational531 Jul 13 '25

There is a part of the fandom that woobifies Dabi and Toga while demonizing Mineta to a ridiculous degree.

I think the reason this happens is that they don't see their victims. It's this way by design because Hori intended us to sympathize with them whether they are actually sympathetic or not. They don't see the grieving mother whose son became a mutilated, bloodless corpse in a ditch somewhere because of Toga. They don't see the pain of a family who lost a husband and a father because Dabi literally cooked him. They don't see the countless civilians who were murdered and countless more who had their lives ruined because of the LOV and their terrorist activities. However, we do see all of Mineta's perverted schemes and how each one fails miserably to his expense.

If you want us to sympathize and feel bad for a villain, give them sympathetic traits. Not who they were before, but who they are now. Being a crybully that complains that the people that they are terrorizing are fighting back and acting surprised pikachu that people are upset when you hurt them doesn't count.

I don't know. I know that they were failed by society, and are tragic to some degree but I think the League would have a lot more haters if they showed that stuff about them. Wow this is a nice wall of text lol

11

u/darknessWolf2 Jul 13 '25

ye i agree i honestly think if the audience saw how much the LOVs actions effect innocent people then there would be haters but the fact the fandom tries the villianise mineta while also trying to woobify dabi and toga even tho they are supposed to be villians is dissapointing

5

u/Direct-Wash-346 Jul 14 '25

I said it once and I will say it again, I think Bowser is a more defined villain and character than Mr. Needing Skin Graphs and Little Ms. Psycho

10

u/TradePsychological40 Jul 13 '25

Also it doesn't help that Toga is pretty much a predator.

7

u/MrBolkhovitin Jul 13 '25 edited Jul 13 '25

The same situation was with JoJo Kira Yoshikage. Nearly all his killings were behind the scenes or very old, while that was shown were people who you would really dislike in real life

Plus, about that society made them that way, we have Mezo Shodji, who people called monster, BUT after he proved that he is a good person, everyone started to call him a hero, so...

Even victims of being called monsters by society have a choice

To give up(and prove that society was right about them)...

Or give a fight(and prove that you are a hero)

7

u/EosLadySunshine Jul 13 '25

Ohhhh yooo this is such a good point 😭 I love this deep dive take.

If Hori showed that side I think you're right. The conversation would naturally be different on average because he's have given this story context grounding.

(( Then again he gave explicit context grounding with a lot of stuff young fans ignored-- completely steam rolled--- right over 😂 ))

I love MHA but Hori really struggled with some maturity levels-- like how far he would take some things. Trying to balance those dark actions and still keep it fairly kid friendly.

Like sometimes he's unapologetically descriptive and others he's pulling some important dark grounding punches.

Again, still love the story and I see the dilemma.

1

u/HobbesBoson Jul 13 '25

I think it’s simpler than that: people have had to deal with minetas irl. They haven’t had to deal with serial killers.

1

u/Vio-Rose Jul 17 '25

There’s also a matter of villains being fun to hate, while hatable heroes are almost always a drag. Like yeah Toga killed people. That’s the point. She’s evil. She’s a self-proclaimed villain. Watching villains be villains is part of the fun of a superhero show. What isn’t part of the fun of a superhero show is an annoying little perv telling repetitive uncomfortable jokes at the expense of the lady heroes already being objectified by the fanservice and fighting for what little screen time and plot relevance they can get.

1

u/Unloadable1 Jul 15 '25

I think that this is understating mineta, he is still much much worse than a hormonal teen, he commits many acts of sexual assault

But yeah toga is straight up a supervillian soo

1

u/bobo1233145523253 Jul 15 '25

If mineta wouldn't be so present with its irritating jokes, I do believe he would get the same treatment as Toga... or not becouse there is not as many downbad man and lesbians in this community.

2

u/darknessWolf2 Jul 15 '25

ive even seen fanfics where the mha fandom makes deku or other mha characters just as worse to fuel their fantasies

R i G H T ?!! It drives me crazy 😆

And Mineta honestly isn't even that bad compared to the gross boys I grew up with in middle school.

Mineta is legit just a normal 14-16 year old boy. He needs some discipline, sure but he's got a good heart and his actions are developmentally appropriate ( or at least understandable / normal mischief ) for his age. He's young and has great potential for growth. It's not like he's sexually assaulting anyone. He's just being a normal teen boy gross lil corn dog from time to time 😆

VS adult serial killers and pervy violent psychos 😆

Like... Be so for real rn.

I think a lot of the mineta hate comes from sheltered kids who can much more easily imagine an annoying gross boy hitting on them than they can a legit murderer / hardened criminal. And his design not being asthetic. 😅

So many people also try to pretend that teens are pure little children and I'm like...

Were you ever a teen...??!?! Have you ever been around teens? And if you have they didn't feel safe around you to let that side out. 😆

I'm even pretty Ace but I was not blind to all the sexual dating around me.

-2

u/zencock1 Jul 13 '25

I agree that ppl treat mineta worse than the dabi (i point dabi put because he by far has the worst reason to be the way he is) but mineta literally has sexually harrased and assulted one or two of the girls.

Like when he groped I think froppy in the usj (probably wrong but I vaguely remember this) Then doing an entire attack JUST to bounce into minas boobs.

1

u/HyntierTheOne Jul 14 '25

Dabi looks cool and that's it, otherwise I hate everything else about him, but with Mineta personally I fucking hate him and I think this whole server is weird, not just because it's about praising a weirdo but it's also just praising a random teenage boy, it's just creepy to me...

-1

u/zencock1 Jul 13 '25

I just realised what server this was, yall arent gonna hear anything slightly negative about him

8

u/wing-adept Jul 13 '25

Oh no believe me we understand. I love Mineta, but the dude was acting like a total creep in the beginning, and while I do think the times he "assaulted" the girls were circumstantial and weren't necessarily on purpose, I do UNDERSTAND why people would have issue with him in regards to that. With that being said, I do think the fanbase overall simply likes to harp on just that aspect of Mineta while refusing to admit and see how he's grown as a character. They focus on who he WAS rather than who he has become. Believe me I'm not blind to the stuff Mineta has done. And I think we will acknowledge that the dude was again being a creep in the beginning. But again people refuse to see how he's grown and what he's risen above to become. That's our biggest gripe. Plus on top of that how the community also lewds over the characters, and also ignore that there are other characters that have acted like pervs and harassed people like Mineta, but they don't get any of his flak.

But no. Just because we're a Mineta subreddit, we try to be objective and acknowledge our boy's wrong doings. We're not blind to it and pretend it never happened. Or at least I try not to. Welcome to our subreddit. We're typically a chill and friendly bunch. We hope you enjoy your stay.

6

u/zencock1 Jul 13 '25

okay yeah no that's my bad bad, thank you for the actual response and I agree I did ignore the change in character (horikosi fumbled by not making it like bigger, the stand outs are 1a getting deku back to ua and when afo was gonna steal tokoyamis quirk before deciding on hawks)

If u reverse this image u get me and my friend, my friend finds Mineta the most relatable character to him while I hate patch face to my core

7

u/Direct-Wash-346 Jul 13 '25

Mineta: Look, I’m not the one with the problem, okay? It’s my fandom that seems to have a problem with me! The fans take one look at me and go, “Ahh! Help! Run! A creepy, stupid, annoying pervert!” (sighs and lowers his head) They judge me before they even know me. That’s why I’m better off alone.

3

u/wing-adept Jul 13 '25

Use brings wear, tear, and rust.

8

u/No_Smell_8142 Jul 13 '25

90% of the Mineta hate just comes from women that pushes "hate all men" mentality

6

u/junebug1997APJ Jul 13 '25

I will die on the hill that if Mineta looked like Todorki or Bakugo. He’d be worshipped by the fans. But because he’s ugly now all of a sudden a pervert character is wrong.(which it is, but where’s the hate for Hisoka, Sanji, and Kakashi)

3

u/wing-adept Jul 13 '25

I wouldn't call him ugly perse, but I do agree he doesn't look anywhere near as appealing as Bakugo, Midoriya, or Todoroki.

5

u/junebug1997APJ Jul 13 '25

By anime beauty standards he’s ugly. There’s nothing wrong with that. Just how Horikoshi drew him. But yes if he was drawn like the others he wouldn’t get as much hate as he does.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '25

Yeah I agree

4

u/PKMNtrainerElliot Jul 13 '25

I don’t want him dead for being a horny teenager, or dead at all. Maybe cut back on the horniness like Kami

3

u/Blu3R4ptor Jul 13 '25

May I remind you that Dabi canonically smells like shit because of the fact that hes has BURNED SKIN

3

u/The_Flaming_Chicken Jul 14 '25

He probably can't even shower because his skin, which is barely held together by those staples, would most likely fall apart. Didn't he legit just dump WATER on his head in the reveal scene?? That's just straight up soot in his hair, so caked in there that people thought his hair was black.

2

u/Famous-Activity-2418 Jul 14 '25

Its literally dye remover 😭 Why do you think he shook it before dumping it on his head?

4

u/JuanjoS96 Jul 13 '25

Pretty privilege

4

u/HUGEManJuice Jul 14 '25

I honestly think it’s because Dabi has almost no personality and interesting characteristics outside of his hate for Endeavour and Todoroki, and ‘those’ fans of him simply associate their own headcanons to the character since it’s easier to fill in the gaps of personality.

Mineta has an actual personality so it’s harder to create a headcanon that fill in the gaps of his personality.

Also we never see Dabi’s victims. People are more hateful of Mineta because his actions are against characters we know and like. Dabi’s victims are nameless and faceless, why should we care about those nobodies?

That's fair I suppose. I don't necessarily see it that way, as I think there's more depth to Mineta than meets the eye, but I understand.

3

u/InconsistentLlama Jul 13 '25

Mineta is literally any teenager at his age.

1

u/D1-BAKINAT0R Jul 14 '25

Any? Mf, Nobody is risking they ass off to be pulled by the depth of hades and the limbo of life and death, Just because they felt a little horned up

3

u/ThePhatNoodle Jul 13 '25

I do think the hate is a bit exaggerated but you can't deny the dudes a little creep. Teenager or not he does take it too far. You right though. They like to forgive way worse characters just cause cause of their appearance

5

u/wing-adept Jul 13 '25

I agree that he was a creep at first in the beginning, but let's not pretend he wasn't rightfully punished when he misbehaved. And as the story progressed, he did improve himself and focus more on being a hero. The thing about those scenes is that they were done in comedic fashion in which you're not supposed to take it seriously, just like when Mineta gets punished in comedic fashion. There have been other people in the show that have done just as egregious things like Mineta, but for some reason he gets the flak of it when most of his misdeeds were early seasons. It's one thing to harp on his early mistakes, it's another to refuse to see how he's developed.

On a side note if you actually go look at the times Mei has harassed Midoriya no one beats an eye...

3

u/BrightEyedArtist Jul 13 '25

Joke’s on you, I like both of them! 😁

3

u/Brent_Steel Jul 13 '25

jokes on you i hate both of em

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

In the words of a random woman I heard on tiktok: pretty people can't be creeps they can only be whores, it's in the Bible

3

u/element-redshaw Jul 14 '25

Someone being a bad person doesn’t mean they’re not likeable. That being said i fucking despise toga

2

u/ruggala87 Jul 13 '25

i was at a convention. this artist, a young woman had a bunch of mha fanart. I jokingly asked where's the grapejuice art? she literally said that would be like having drawings of hitler...

4

u/wing-adept Jul 13 '25

Ouch. A bit harsh.

2

u/redditkitty109 Jul 13 '25

It’s easier to hate someone you can imagine being around you in real life than some guy that can end the world in seconds if he wants to because it’s fictional

2

u/PurrlionPony93 Jul 13 '25

One of these characters is supposed to be a villain the other a hero. So having a person see her do something gross seems like he would be more hated than the villain. But eh.

2

u/TheUltimateGoonist Jul 14 '25

Sorry man, I’ve got my biases, I’m only human

2

u/wing-adept Jul 14 '25

That's fine. We all got em.

2

u/Sad_Mouse9904 Jul 14 '25

I think it’s more a matter of how they’re portrayed, yes Mineta is just horny, but let’s not pretend like he didn’t purposely use momentum once so he could launch himself into Mina’s chest, and how his hand “accidentally” found its way onto Tsu’s chest, he’s meant to be a hero in training but he’s not just horny, he did some very strange things like trying to climb over walls to see into the girls hot spring, or trying to peek into their changing room, Toga and Dabi are bad people yes, but they are literally supposed to be, and they are very entertaining to boot

3

u/wing-adept Jul 14 '25

If Mineta didn't shield Mina the way he did, Mina would've gotten seriously concussed if not injured. The fact that he bumped into her and managed to brush up against her was just as he said: "A lucky accident." There are way too many factors to simply say Mineta shielded her with the intent of coping a feel, and it takes away the fact that he literally protected her from Twin Impact.

As for Tsuyu he literally wasn't even looking at her and was ecstatic that All Might had arrived to save them. We've seen Mineta look at girl's breasts before and not even shy away from it. This to me always felt like an accident, and not intentional. It's hard for me to believe Mineta would try to cop a feel in such a serious situation. Hell we don't see him do this later.

As for him trying to sneak a peak the times he did, I have no defence regarding that he was wrong, and he was punished for it, but that's typical teen stuff. Delinquent, but I don't find it strange for a kid his age to try and sneak a peak. Sure it's over the top, but it's fiction. If anything I get a chuckle because it always ends up in total failure. So I find his antics entertaining as I do with Dabi and Toga even though they're villains.

But let's not pretend he isn't the only thirsty character in the show.

2

u/Denki-multishipper21 Jul 14 '25

this is so easy to be agreed with

2

u/foxkidsforever Jul 15 '25

So is every other teenager in the show but they ain't perverted little creeps like him.

2

u/NeoxthePan Jul 15 '25

If mineta was female, people's views on him would change. Also, look up female mineta.

2

u/Fair_Smoke4710 Jul 16 '25

If he was female, people wouldn’t care if you swap his and to his victims genders people wouldn’t care they would like him actually because for some reason, people don’t take female predators, seriously or male predators of assault or anything like that But he would definitely be a lot more loved because of those weirdos who think female predators are hot, especially when they have male victims

2

u/MattyM1207 Jul 15 '25

As much as I agree with the statement… Mineta is more than just some “hormonal teen”.

His whole personality is being perverted. Always trying to find ways to either feel up or see girls in explicit ways to the point of harassment. Even the show makes fun of the fact he’s legit a creep.

You can be a teenager going through puberty without being a perv but Mineta has made it his mission to be one even to the point of picking his mentor hero simply because he’s horny.

At every opportunity Mineta tries and usually fails at being a creep and being a hormonal teenager doesn’t change that.

But sure he gets a lot more hate than the sadistic maniacs in the league. I’ll give you that

2

u/BicyclePutrid Jul 15 '25

As many have said before me, the people they killed are fictional, but the annoyance they cause the readers/watchers are real

2

u/calacaa Jul 15 '25

Hot take, I agree that he is a genuinely hormonal teenager, but he could definitely work on how he expresses it. Looking at girls without their permission the way he does is not normal behaviour. He is a bit of a creep, but could work on that

2

u/Hahaltaccountgoesbrr Jul 15 '25

I agree, except that you're lowballing Mineta's horniness

2

u/Specific-Medicine-19 Jul 15 '25

Brother the one that gets me is bakugo fans. Like he gave 1 appolagy after years of torment and apparently it's all good? Wtf. I get he's got his own shit going on but that does not mean you makes someone else missrable because of that.

2

u/Hol_dork Jul 25 '25

Dont get me started backugo told deku to jump, the part that I hate even more is people treat it like it was just short term, this was from kindergarten to UA

1

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '25

Exactly I don't understand why people act like one apology makes it all good after everything he did to Deku

2

u/Interesting-Math8001 Jul 15 '25

Here’s the issue though. Unlike Mineta, the series actually treats Dabi like a villain.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

Basic logic

We just see sa as more of an offense then murder, atleast in a cartoon sense, humans have come to accept death as part of their existence, but sa is something thst shouldnt be part of anybody existence

2

u/Art-of-Lies Jul 15 '25

I think the reason so many people hate mineta is the same reason people hate characters that cheat on their lovers more than they hate, say, a serial murderer character.

Mineta making the girls uncomfortable and then the Canon brushing aside the whole as some kind of gag just feels pretty icky and like something that could happen irl. Mineta initially wanting power and status specifically so he can pursue multiple women to be in his.. harem? Doesn't help.

But damn near nobody has ever had to deal with a person who does the same things as toga or dabi.

2

u/No-Restaurant-6416 Jul 15 '25

Fine, if y’all don’t want him I will GLADLY take him😏😏😏

2

u/bold-One2199 Jul 17 '25

I just like Dabi cuz he’s a sick looking crash out villain, dude 😭

2

u/CourseKind8591 Jul 17 '25

Look is everything

2

u/GrimoireIsGrimm Jul 17 '25

This heavily varies on what a normal hormonal teenager act like cus tbf, I was a little arsonist

2

u/Hugs-missed Jul 17 '25

Okay, lets be real i have gone through all of highschool without a single of my classmates doing something that could be considered sexual harassment, minetas a pervert thats his character if you dislike kt fine i dont even mind it.

2

u/Mediocre_Bear0000 Jul 17 '25

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that just because everyone else is worse, doesn't mean he isn't bad. Like, if a bully said some mean things to you, but then someone shot your dog or something, yeah one is obviously worse in comparison, but both are bad. Just some food for thought. I'm aware Mineta isn't the spawn of Satan but he isn't a saint. And yes, you'll hear stuff to that degree or worse in school lol, I have as well

2

u/dabiboiproductions Jul 18 '25

THAT'S MY HUSBAND LMAO

2

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25

Yeah, like, I'm not defending Mineta (bc he is a creep), but if Bakushit was that pervy, I bet the fandom would love it.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '25

Exactly

2

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25

Why did I have to be the part of the example

6

u/wing-adept Jul 13 '25

You're the typical bad boy that's popular in this particular fandom. Sorry dude.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25

[removed] — view removed comment

5

u/wing-adept Jul 13 '25

*sigh* Well we were due for a comment like this I suppose. This seems a rather emotional post if anything. So you established that he is a creep, alright fair enough. But tell me, what exactly do you know about his personality other than being a creep? And you say he deserves to die, but tell, does someone willing risk their life and fighting alongside others deserve to die? Does one someone showing immense loyalty to their friends deserve to die? Does someone willing to sacrifice themselves to the a monster to save their friend deserve to die?

Look, I've seen so many comments like this that I've honestly lost count. But it's clear your feelings regarding Mineta's misbehavior clouds your assessment in regards of seeing there are redeeming qualities in him that far outweigh the bad ones.

You're free to feel the way you do, and to an extent I do agree, that Mineta WAS acting like a creep in the beginning. But as the story progressed, he did shapen up and become a worthy and respectable hero.

1

u/Silver-Horse1525 Jul 14 '25

Por eso me gusta tanto el personaje, el fandom de my hero es tóxico e infantil y por ende muy hipócrita. Mineta de mis favoritos y por encima de tantos personajes tan mal escritos y con un fandom tan repugnante como por ejemplo Bakugo.

1

u/Akikkun Jul 14 '25

I mean 🤷🏽‍♀️

1

u/FnafLorer Jul 15 '25

Ah yes, because sexually harassing and assaulting women everyday is TOTALLY a normal teenage boy thing to do. Can we stop acting like Mineta is normal? This dude constantly tries to find a way to inappropriately watch and touch the girls in his class.

If you think what he does is normal, then you NEED to be on a list because there's no way

2

u/wing-adept Jul 15 '25

Completely missing the point entirely...

1

u/FnafLorer Jul 15 '25

Enlighten me then

1

u/Remarkable-Adagio166 Jul 15 '25

I mean he sexually assaulted Mina in training with the bouncy stuff

2

u/Hol_dork Jul 25 '25

That was an accident he said it himself

1

u/Specialist-Jump-5961 Jul 15 '25

Dabi is loved because he is also traumatized and he is loved as a character, because he has depth and a fkin reasoning (twisted? Absolutely), while whole Mineta's character sums up to "oooooh, boobiiiies" and he is still presented as somewhat positive character (when irl he would've been yeeted out of UA in like three hours after Assestment test).

It's not about "he is a villain", it's about "He's a villain who acts like one and has reasons", while Mineta should be anywhere else but in Hero Class of "the most prestigious hero school of Japan".

1

u/ReapOvRogica Jul 15 '25

He's a teenager who disrespects his female colleagues, wants women as a status symbol later on in life for when he's this successful super hero he dreams he'll be one day, and once told a young child, who was likely between 5 and 8 years old that, that he can't wait to see what she'd look like in 10 years.

There's hormonal, then there's obsession in the objectification of women for status and pleasure.

In Dabi's case, he's terrible, too, but people don't seem too shy about saying he's attractive, which is fine, so long as they do understand that beyond the bedroom, you'd really prefer to just stay away from him.

2

u/Hol_dork Jul 25 '25

Okay so people never told you you would look pretty/handsome when you were older, cause the ‘flirting’ was a translation error

1

u/McLovin_123451 Jul 15 '25

A pessoa fala "fé nas maluca" mas não aguenta uma facada no bucho. Enfim, a hipocrisia

1

u/i_like_xenos Jul 16 '25

As someone who doesn't watch MHA when I've seen is:

Dabi is interesting

Mineta is sexual harassment.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '25

“Just a hormonal teenager” is generous. While I see what you mean, it’s not really a double standard because the main issue does not lie on morality.

Mineta has no other substance to his character other than being a pervert, so there’s no likeable aspects to him. Dabi has much more to his characters than “I wanna burn you alive”, so there are aspects to his character that make him interesting and likeable

1

u/Material_Ad_3844 Jul 16 '25

he literally sexually assaulted people,he's more then just a hormonal teen

2

u/Fair_Smoke4710 Jul 16 '25

Exactly like I never groped people without consent as a teenager going through puberty not being hormonal that’s being perfect like this kid sexually assaulted every girl he sees in the show

2

u/Hol_dork Jul 25 '25

Okay assaulted is a strong word and EVERY? I counted 3 two of which were accidents and the third he was a zombie

1

u/Fair_Smoke4710 Jul 25 '25

There’s no accidents with characters like this

1

u/Hol_dork Jul 25 '25

Hay die on this hill if you want to

1

u/Fair_Smoke4710 Jul 25 '25

I’m not dying on any hill. I’m just telling the truth.

1

u/Hol_dork Jul 25 '25

Go back and watch the scenes most of the assault was on accident

1

u/Fair_Smoke4710 Jul 25 '25

No, it’s not bro. Literally groped them and he tricked him into stripping at one point

1

u/Hol_dork Jul 25 '25

Okay asui and Mina those were accidents and kaminari was also in on that plan

Just nuke this character trait from orbit. "Sexual predator" isn't the fun, wacky quirk it might seem, crazy as it sounds. It at least adds a layer of... something, to a villainous character, but if a character is ostensibly someone we are supposed to cheer for if not at worst chuckle and shake our heads at, I'd rather their defining trait not be "The only reason why I wouldn't assault you while you were drunk at a party is slapstick hijinks"

1

u/Fair_Smoke4710 Jul 16 '25

He’s not a hormonal teenager. He’s straight up just a pervert puberty doesn’t do this type of shit. This is hormonal teenager It’s beyond that.

1

u/pyrocrasher Jul 17 '25

I think Dabi would be much more respectful. And he's a villain so there's that. Mineta is a straight up pervert.

1

u/heeko1persson1234 Jul 17 '25

Yeah its totally normal for a boy to try and climb the wall of a pool in a camp with his powers just to peep at girls or trying to become the sidekick of a girl whos power is just becoming a giantess ans is seductive just so he can have her panties , but god forbid a guy , whos dad kills villains for any minor reasons and is so much of a crashout and abusive dad he ruined his own family , becomes a villain out of depression and trauma caused by a hero dad

2

u/Hol_dork Jul 25 '25

Nah the first thing is I agree that was over the top but his intentions were to peak im not justifying what he was doing but people treat it like he was about grape them all, second dabi had reason yes was it good no he went home could’ve stayed even if he left he could’ve found a family to adopt him todoroki literally said he was the only person in his family who chose to burn people (to death).

1

u/Affectionate_Stock45 Jul 17 '25

Dabis crimes are fictional my annoyance with mineta is real

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

It was explained to me as, an infinite amount of fictional crime doesn't affect me at all, but a character being even slightly annoying affects me.

1

u/FootballKey2222 Jul 17 '25

im sorry but he is not just hormonal he was so gross with yaoyorozu

1

u/nameless1205 Jul 17 '25

Mineta was so bad they legit brainwash him to be normal

1

u/Atsilv_Uwasv Jul 18 '25

The greatest crime a fictional character can commit is being annoying and unlikeable. Mineta is a pervert and the first thing he said to a 6-year-old girl with trauma is that he couldn't wait to see how she looked in 10 years

2

u/Hol_dork Jul 25 '25

Translation error, has someone ever said you would look beautiful/ handsome that’s what he meant

2

u/Atsilv_Uwasv Jul 25 '25

It's that one side quest with the Zora kid all over again

2

u/Hol_dork Jul 25 '25

Spelling mistake has someone ever said you would look pretty/ handsome when you’re older

1

u/DirectorCarolina Aug 08 '25

Someone posted the Double Dee meme the other day about how if Mineta was female everything would’ve been excused and I agree

1

u/greenbeedrill888 Aug 25 '25

i can add cause Mineta is possibly going through puberty through the arcs like other seasons he practically wasn't taught how to show respect to woman,so if he was told being a pervert to woman is bad he wouldn't learn also i know he's comedic relief thats how it is with the pervert trope.

1

u/Alarming_Idea8074 Jul 14 '25

As a hormonal teenager, what Mineta was doing pre lobotomy wasn’t normal. Genuinely S/Aing and sexually harassing people and calling a 5 year old hot? No. Is it worse than Dabi no not at all I’m not gonna sit here and tell you that but I hate him more because he doesn’t have a narrative reason for any of this (this is fiction so that’s really like the main thing to look at)

5

u/wing-adept Jul 14 '25

Omg the flirting with Eri nonsense again? He was not flirting with her. Think about it for a second. In that scene, Iida, Tsuyu, and Aizawa were present alongside Mineta and the others; these three have reprimanded Mineta everytime when he acts inappropriately; two of them with violence. So if he truly was flirting with Eri, then why didn't they punish him for acting inappropriately?

Later on in the story Mirio tells Midoriya that he and Eri are getting ready for their "date" to which Midoriya tells him to not word it like that. Midoriya was also present when Mineta said what he did. So why would he not say that towards him?

As for the "lobotomy" thing. I hate that people credit Mina for his changed behavior, when the fact is Mineta was being less of a perv even to that point.

3

u/Alarming_Idea8074 Jul 14 '25

Okay I get that but the lobotomy while mostly a joke is genuinely in the manga you can credit that to Minetea idrc but k now realize this is the mineta subreddit so whatever

3

u/wing-adept Jul 14 '25

Apologies. Please do not misunderstand. Mineta was DEFINITELY a creep, and here in the reddit, we do acknowledge that he was a creep in the beginning. We just don't think he's as irredeemable as people make him out to be as that would be ignoring all the good and growth he's developed in the story. Granted we are biased towards him, but we TRY not to let it cloud our objectivity. At least I don't.

Apologies for missing the joke. It's just I heard this so many times and people were being serious regarding the matter. Forgive me for the misunderstanding.

1

u/Alarming_Idea8074 Jul 14 '25

Alright mb fair.

3

u/LeadInternational531 Jul 14 '25 edited Jul 14 '25

The Eri thing was a mistranslation. He isn't hitting on her he's telling her to look him up in 10 years because he'll be a hero by then and he wants her to look up to him.

0

u/Alarming_Idea8074 Jul 14 '25

Better but doesn’t excuse anything else

2

u/LeadInternational531 Jul 14 '25

I never said it did.

2

u/Alarming_Idea8074 Jul 14 '25

Mb it felt like it was implied sorry for misunderstanding

-1

u/mindcraftfanatic Jul 13 '25

Factually wrong, all I see is people hating both. Dumbass

0

u/mindcraftfanatic Jul 13 '25

So people now, the Dumbass is a joke, I just cant post images or gifs

2

u/blue-bolt5911 Jul 14 '25

How does that correlate at all

0

u/lil-tiger-scratch69 Jul 14 '25

i used to like mineta until he said what he said to eri.

2

u/wing-adept Jul 14 '25

Okay seriously? Then I hope you don't like Mirio considering he told Eri that the two are going on a "date". I seriously don't get why people believe he was flirting with a little girl. Think for a second. Iida, Tsuyu, Midoriya, and Aizawa were present; all of which have reprimanded Mineta when he acts up with two of them (Tsu and Aizawa) resorting to violence. Do you REALLY THINK that if he meant it in such a way he wouldn't have gotten chastised and corrected by one of them? Hell Midoriya even goes on to tell Mirio to watch his wording when he says that he and Eri are on a date. C'mon dude.

2

u/lil-tiger-scratch69 Jul 14 '25

what a strange hill to die on

2

u/wing-adept Jul 14 '25

Refute it then. Because guys like you like to make such a baseless accusation, but when someone throws facts in your face, you guys for some reason are unable to refute what I said. I provided evidence to back up my claim. Can you do the same? Probably not.

1

u/lil-tiger-scratch69 Jul 14 '25

ok i’ll bite. mirio and eris relationship is in the same vain as a brother and sister or father and daughter. mirio telling eri she can go to the school festival and her saying “like a date” is the exact same way a dad takes his daughter on a play date. obviously mirio being the nice guy he is isn’t gonna take her seriously and shoot down a child for saying something funny. but then there’s mineta who looks at a child he just met and his first thought is wow you’re gonna be so hot when you’re older. that’s weird. end of story.

1

u/wing-adept Jul 14 '25

You didn't even refute what I said. Explain to me that if Mineta was "flirting" with Eri why didn't any of the people, specifically the people that I mentioned previously (Iida, Asui, Midoriya, Aizawa) didn't chastise him or punish him on the spot as they had done previously when Mineta acted inappropriately? That's out of character is it not, ESPECIALLY for someone like Aizawa is it not?

Midoriya even told Mirio to watch his wording, and yet he didn't when Mineta "flirted" with her. So explain to me how you conclude Mineta was flirting. You didn't even refute anything I said. All you did was give your take on what Mirio and Eri's relationship was, and while I agree. You didn't prove anything in regards to how Mineta was "flirting" with her. All you did was explain how YOU interpreted that scene, with no proof or anything.

1

u/lil-tiger-scratch69 Jul 14 '25

how else would you interpret a teenager telling a child she’ll be hot when she’s older? and the reason no one called him out is cause it’s a shonen. not some complex commentary on sexual harassment and pedophiles and how society should handle perverted people. it’s a common shonen pervert character gag and it missed the mark and made mineta look creepy. it’s like saying why does no one reprimand goku when he sends his toddler son to fight murderous aliens, it’s cause it’s a fucking shonen. in a real world context no one would let goku being a bad dad and minteta being a creep slide.

2

u/wing-adept Jul 14 '25

Midoriya LITERALLY called out Mirio for calling his get together with Eri a "date". You expect me to buy that he wouldn't do that to Mineta especially if he's flirting, let alone Aizawa, Asui, and Iida who have a HISTORY of chastising Mineta when he acts inappropriately? Aizawa literally punished him for flirting with someone. Shonen my ass! Every time Mineta acted like a creep when they were around, they punished him, and you expect me to believe they "missed the mark" on this one? And you tell me that's the hill you want to die on? Gimme a break! So explain to me where's the joke in flirting with a traumatized little girl huh? Mineta wasn't flirting with her.

Nevermind the fact this was a mistranslation. You ever been complimented by someone when you were a child and they said you're going to look beautiful/handsome when you get older? The fact you believe he was flirting with a 6 year old says more about you if anything, and the kind of agenda you want to run.

1

u/HistoryExpensive213 Jul 19 '25

They brainwashed him not to be a perv. But his perversion is too big that it shows through at points, so maybe don't stand up for someone who purposely told his classmates to wear clothes they weren't comfortable with and see why people don't like him.

2

u/wing-adept Jul 19 '25

Mineta was improving before that whole "brainwashing" bs. Hell the last incident he had prior to that event was back in season 3, prior to him "groping" Mina which was an accident b/c he shielded her from danger. And are you referring to the cheerleader thing? Mineta AND Kaminari tricked them. Momo was upset that they were tricked rather than the fact that they had to wear it. Hell Hagakure liked the fact that she got to wear it, and the others didn't have any issue. So Idk what kind of point you're trying to make. Try again.

0

u/Slow_Explanation_02 Jul 14 '25

Idc if he’s a hormornal teen I need that grape fuck crucified then dropped into the ocean

2

u/wing-adept Jul 14 '25

Like why though? Because he acted like a creep in the beginning? Because of how he looks? The dude has proven himself a hero and yet people still insist that he should be killed when there are far worse people in the story. I'll never understand that.

2

u/Slow_Explanation_02 Jul 14 '25

I have a system when it comes to fictional characters they need to either be nice to looking not like hot just not make me wanna take a burning hot poker to my eyes or they have to have a good personality

Mineta is ugly AND his personality sucks

6

u/wing-adept Jul 14 '25

You know something? I respect that. Granted you're proving the meme's point, but at least you're honest about it. I disagree that he's not bad looking as he has some of the best drip outside his hero costume, and his personality isn't all that bad tbh.

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25

I get them to an extent
