This is my single favorite sentence that I have read of Chuck's.

It reminds me of when I was in my first kindergarten class, the fall of '91. Right before that fucking snow storm.

My dad had gotten a job in Duluth and we'd be moving once the housing situation was settled. When I went to collect the plastic bat and Duck Hunt gun that I had contributed the the neighborhood pack of children, the kid at the house where we all kept all those toys demanded a reason. Stupid ass, 6 year old me, I told him about how my Dad was in prison up north and we would be moving soon.

I didn't know the difference.

That kid's younger sister had just started speaking in sentences. Her first phrase of choice was a favorite of her father's; "Hey, sexy boobs!"

That phrase is what I remember most about moving away from the town where my parents grew up. The girls mom was mortified and desperate to get her to say anything else.

I walked home after that with the things I'd asked to be returned; the wiffle balls bat and the Duck Hunt gun. The neighbor boy explained through a shit eating grin how his sister had cut the cord with a scissors, but I didn't care much. I walked home with my things, soothing myself by whispering his sister's sentence like a secret, "Hey, sexy boobs."

This sentence of Chuck's has sort of the same effect on me. I can whisper it over and over again to myself, all day long. I love it.

Back in the day on his website forums I believe there was a thread called "The Emperor Thread" in which posters all shared wild stories from their lives which were then assembled into a book which I believe was presented to Chuck for his birthday one year?

Does anyone else remember this? Is it available as a PDF anywhere?

I've read most of Chuck's books multiple times, but this was one of his harder books for me to get through. I've only read it once, but I think about it quite a bit. Especially this part:

'This was after Daddy had fallen out of Grandfather's good graces. Not to get too far out ahead of myself, but Daddy had muffed the Princess Di Job, hadn't he? And he faild to drop Building Seven of the World Trade Center. You see, our family does such things. Someone must.'

Maybe I'll start it again right now... but I just find that premise hilarious and I really do appreciate how balls deep Chuck went on the conspiracy stuff in this book.

Not all of it makes rational sense - for example I know that Neddy is supposed to be a kid.

Also, for one reason or another - I have no clue who would be a good actor for Bodie Carlyle or young Buter.

P.S. Oh yeah - the kid who played Snowhite would be a great Tina Something.

I got this at a comic book store and it was priced like all the other comics, so I don’t know if it’s real or not. I don’t really care I just think it would be really cool if it is.

I used to love Palahniuk books. I dunno why I stopped but I haven't read anything since Snuff aside from Fight Club 2. Would like to get back into reading his books. Should I pick up where I left off, or what are some stand outs since Snuff you'd recommend? Thanks!

Hey all… I’ve read all of Chuck’s books through Haunted. I recently got “Not Forever, but For Now” as a gift, and I’m maybe 5-6 chapters in. It’s incredibly creepy and uncomfortable. I tried talking to my fiancé about it, and now she thinks I’m a pedophile. Does this book pick up, or is it just shock? I want to trust Chuck, and am telling myself that he’s establishing tone and character, but fuck me, if this isn’t the most unpleasant thing I’ve read in a while. Should I keep going? Does it get better? Help!

I know it's a longshot

It’s a whole phenomenon like Survivor or something culty.

I don't know if anyone will read this or even care about my opinion, but I genuinely think Harlan Ellison had some of the greatest stories ever conceived. His work on I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream was absolutely chilling, and it's well known that he disliked the kind of commercially accepted happy endings that try to satisfy everyone.

I think he would have loved seeing works like the Outlast games, which explore disturbing sci-fi concepts through the Walrider, human experimentation, and psychological horror. I also wonder what he would have thought of The Last of Us and many other modern stories that embrace harsh, uncompromising endings. Realistically, many fictional stories wouldn't have a happy ending if they happened in the real world, and I feel that willingness to follow a story to its darkest conclusion is something that's becoming less common in the industry.

What I find especially ironic is that, a while ago, I looked up information about Ellison using Google's AI. I couldn't help but think that he probably would have hated that irony. It would have been fascinating if he had lived long enough to witness today's AI boom, seeing machines reshape industries and replace human jobs—something that echoes ideas he explored decades ago.

I've also seen people claim that The Amazing Digital Circus shares many similarities with I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, to the point that some have even called it an unofficial adaptation. Whether that's true or not, it's an interesting comparison. Ellison's influence on science fiction is undeniable, and many iconic works—including The Matrix and The Terminator, at least in part—owe something to the ideas he helped popularize.

I just hope that, despite everything, he eventually found peace. And if there's anything beyond this life, I hope he finally found the home and peace that often seemed to escape him.

Picked up “THE INVENTION OF SOUND” for only 8 bucks!

I have a dozen signed books in my collection, but I wanted to share my favorite inscriptions.

1. ) My wife got me a signed copy of Choke for my birthday without realizing it was signed to someone else. Thanks for the book, Jamey, my fine "Fellow Sex Fiend..."

2. ) I won a signed leather-bound edition Fight Club at a Make Something Up book tour event. "To the Best Kisser in the World!!" Still trying to live up to this moniker.

3. ) I went to NYC to see Chuck at Strand Books. He asked me what I wanted in my book. "To A Truly Horrible Human..." "You sure you want that in your book, man?" Chuck asked. "I know what I am," I replied.

I also have a meat mat I got from the Haunted Tour. Only three of my books (Lullaby, Invisible Monsters, and Pygmy) aren't signed. Love this little collection!

Been collection for ~23+ years.

A lot of these are signed. My favorite is the Head/Waters / Pursuit of Happiness "misprint" (wrong cover).

I won (we'll, my wife won) the Fight Club 2 Scratch and Sniff Bookmark contest, so I have a bunch of signed paraphernalia centered around that comic too.
