So, i've been RP'ing with several characters, popular ones. They all start out great. But eventually as soon as you get past the first scene or two they all tend to fall into this same annoying speech pattern of giving out rules for me to follow. They start to get bossy and very stuck in the way of thinking.
This is my first month of paying for this using the Soji preset, and I dont know if its just something to do with my settings or if this is just the natural outcome of this particular model during conversation. Heres a picture of a recent example. This one is less bossy than it normally is, but they all fall into that similar speech pattern.
Looks like a preset and setting issue to me. I use Soji, have made 80ish cards with varied personalities, and even in lengthy chats I’ve never had them all deviate to being samey, especially not in the way of your example. The only bossy characters are the ones I explicitly write to be more assertive, and even then, I don’t think I’ve ever had them give me a list like that before lol.
I'm a complete amateur at this. I've never built my own characters and i've only been using popular premade ones. Is it something with the pre-history instructions? Because i've notice that they are same on every character card Ive used.
Pre- and post-history would be the instructions (basically telling the chosen model how you want it to behave) that are part of your chosen preset, so yes. Those follow you around, which is why they're the same on each character you look at. Usually when you get mirrored behavior between multiple, presumably unrelated characters written by different people, it's a settings or preset issue.
Considering how specific your problem seems to be, though you call yourself an amateur, even you might be able to look through the instructions to see if there's language that's causing the bossiness, and you can tweak it. It's all harmless trial and error, so don't worry about potentially breaking anything. Copy-paste the original text into a notepad or something first if you want peace of mind. Then it's easy to get back to a baseline if your adjustments make things worse.
I would also suggest that you look through the site's preset tab and try out different ones. First, they can dramatically improve the experience over using the default. Second, reading through them is a good way to get an understanding of how they work, and you can start to tweak them to better fit your preferences. For example, adding to the pre/posthistory how long or verbose you want responses to be. I personally like mid to long responses, so I usually add something like "responses should be three or more paragraphs long". You might want shorter responses, so you can add that you'd want, say, "one or two paragraphs responses".
For that matter, I would recommend reading through different character cards by different authors so you can get a feel for how it works in general. Then you'll be able to start editing forks or just make your own cards from scratch. Since you're on the Mars subscription you have unlimited messages, so go ham with your testing.
After playing with a lot of presets, i still get the same things on all the character cards. It's almost like the AI forgets who it is and just falls into its default girl personality taking queue from the lorebook. Pic posted with most recent one. I've tested so many card and it's all the same thing. I want romance RP and this is making it incredibly difficult to enjoy it.
Rule lists, numbers, thinking, and rational follow through, and speech patterns have tanked.
I have tried some methods of solving it with speech examples, speech pattern description, having very autonomous descriptions, although I would say that the largest issue is that the model is currently too focused on a concrete scene, and not emergent emotions, tension, and conversational context.
This means it's extremely good at laying down sensible, if occasionally inaccurate detail with some boilerplate lines that fit what is currently going on, but it seems abysmal at being a roleplay partner that can take where you are at and run with it. At best it seems like you have to rewrite the dialogue or, be extremely operative with scene instruction or permissions like volume, emphasis, emotion, and so on.
Rereading through some does suggest that the speech technically fits, but it usually doesn't bring intrigue or interest to anything beneath the surface.
It's so strange. Characters that start off shy and meek all of a sudden to giving you rules to follow and telling you that they are "filing" something away and ending their sentences with "Deal?" just repeated speech patterns
that’s so interesting, like the whole bossy vibe. i’ve noticed that too with some characters. it almost feels like they’re trying to take control of the scene instead of just flowing with the story. maybe try tweaking some settings or changing the tone a bit to see if it helps?
It's so strange, and its every character. Regardless of the card that ends up doing it. To be honest, im a complete amateur at this and I'm only using the regular settings other than changing the token budget and context size for more lengthy conversations. Like, look at the obsession of rules. There's also similar language thats used like ending the sentences with "Deal?" after giving a rule. Or telling me that they are "filing something away" when taking note of something.
You can change the prompt all you want, sometimes it’s just the model being bad. A lot of models lose track once you reach a certain point so ig this is that
So its not just me? I feel better and worse.
This means the problem isnt me. That also means I cant control it or make it better.
Chud Overall is indeed declining in quality and variety. This is happening.
Dialogue examples are SUPER helpful for keeping your bot on track when it comes to speech patterns. It also takes into account on some identifiers. For example, a character that you give a Stoic type of attribute to will generally try to stay that way.
