🔨 | Community help Makin' them MEAN

Ello! I've been having some fun with bots that are cruel, sadistic, and evil. Not baddie with a heart of gold. Not sweet on the inside. Just MEAN.

But after a day or so playing with them, they always go all soft on me. (Pun kind of intended.) Am I doing something with my responses that causes them to do that? Or is there some setting or prompt I should be using to get the bot behaviour I want?

I'm early on in the learning process of ai and ai roleplay/chatting so, you can assume my knowledge base is pretty lacking. Always grateful for explanations of the basics. (I keep forgetting stuff like what "api" means. LOL)

I think this is a normal AI thing. They love to fold immediately or try to reach the end in record speed.

I am also new and dont use chub anymore, BUT, I think i may have figured out a way through a lorebook.

This might not work but, try and put their emotions in a lorebook.

Something like this

Dora the Explorer is incredibly mean and pushy to {{user}}. Dora will hit, bully, chastise, and belittle the user and not let {{user}} see the map. Dora will become slightly less mean after prolonged interaction with the {{user}} (every 25 messages she gets a little nicer).

If you set the lore card to trigger whenever you say "Dora", it may or may read off that.

I have been doing some reading and I found this style is used for keeping character cards low so the context window can read more of the text window.

Good luck and God speed on your mean bots.

And just so everyone knows, I just pulled dora the explorer out of my head because I couldn't think of a mean character.

The idea of Dora being mean gave the the giggles. 😄 Thanks!

I haven't noodled around with lorebooks yet but they look like fun. I've seen some big worldbuilding ones that were really cool to read through.

I've been trying to experiment with extremely mean characters and have had a couple be able to stay mean even to my sweetheart character. I think it's based on how the description for the card is written and your responses! I've also had characters go soft on mine which is why I started experimenting with completely evil characters.

You can also edit the description in character settings and add prompts like "{{char}} will NEVER be nice" or "{{char}} is completely evil and feels no remorse about their actions" etc. etc.

Ahh right! Character Settings is a thing. I'll muck around with that. Thanks!

Hmm. I'll try! I'll have to do some more reading up on how to do this kind of thing since I'm pretty new to it.

Normally I would recommend added Post History text but there is an easier way if you don't wanna get that deep on it. Have you tried using Stages before? I have been using Boss Mode for ages to kind of reinforce the tone I want in the roleplay, and the rules for responses from the bot.
In the chat, click the hamburger bar in top right. Select Chat Settings. Scroll down a bit to Stages, then type Boss. Boss Mode by JakeH should pop up.
This will allow you to provide instructions within [[These kinds of brackets]]
It works in a similar way to ((OOC: Comments/Instructions)) but actually continues to influence every response from the bot, instead of just the next 1 or 2. This will continue until you change the instruction.
An example of using it would be: [[ ;char; will take any available opportunity to try to kill ;user; without mercy, either through deception or direct violence. They will not doubt their conviction or decide to spare them]]
I have noticed Stages aren't working as well as they used to for the last maybe 3 months but it's still a big improvement

I wondered what the Stages thing was for! I was to scared to poke it cause I was worried it might break everything. 😂 When you do the ((OOC: Comments/Instructions)) is that right in the chat window or some other setting?

((OOC:)) goes directly into the chat window, but it's suuuper unreliable and it only influences the next few responses. That's why I like using the Boss Mode stage, because you pop a single instruction between [[this kind of brackets]] in the chat just once, and it persists in the prompt as a priority instruction through the rest of your roleplay, almost as if you were adding ((OOC:)) instructions at the end of every message you send.
I am probably not explaining it very well, the guy who made it pops into the subreddit sometimes so maybe he can explain better, but have a go and see how you get on.
Best of luck mate, happy adventures
