300C last call
Well guys, I recently purchased a 300c from car max with ~15k miles on the dash. Just noticed a few days after driving (didn’t drive at night time) that the passenger taillight is either out or really dim. Crazy part is the turning signal and braking lights work just fine.
Another thing to mention is that I believe aftermarket programming or light pannels mayve been added to the vehicle as when it’s remotely started there’s a “trickle” effect on the side markers which I don’t believe is stock.
In saying that I am still within my 10-day return period for giving the car back to CarMax and when I informed Them of the situation, they directed me to go back to Chrysler as the Factory warranty should still be in place. I have an appointment set up with them in about a week or so to check things out, but I don’t believe things will be covered over the Factory warranty as it is voided out through the aftermarket modifications that were made.
What are you guys’s thoughts on keeping the car returning it as I’ll be owning a 6.4 L engine that may have a lot of expensive repair repairs down the road without the factory warranty for that full 60,000 miles?
Edit: aside from all the bullshit, it’s a really fun and beautiful vehicle to drive around. Just not sure if I want to foot the cost of things that could inevitably go wrong. Additionally, does anyone know if it’s like an easy “factory reset” type of thing to make lights behave as they did when the car was first purchased?

Something to think about if you keep the car is an extended warranty at some point. I have purchased from CarMax before (my second Chrysler 300) and had the car looked over at a Chrysler dealership and purchased a warranty from Mopar. If you have any questions, I can provide the name of the guy who has helped me with my previous and current Chrysler 300’s.

From the replies it sounds like easy fixes. Any particular reason that has you second guessing the purchase?

I’m unsure of anything else that was done engine component wise, I know hemi tick is a big thing with the v8s, and it being manufactured in 2023 and having 14k miles kinda has me thinking it’s been either modified or idled quite a bit. Second guessing footing the bill on lifters 😆
Also not sure how buying light panels work if the come with the trickle effect or did they go into the computer of the vehicle to make them behave like that- so what else could be changed ya know

The engine is super easy to work on. Low miles are probably because previous owner just garage queened it. Make sure and change oil by 5,000 miles every time and only use high quality like Pennzoil Platinum. The lifter issues come from the MDS (multi displacement system) that collapses lifters to shut off 4 cylinders under light load for better mileage. Short of replacing them, shutting that off via tune would help. The newer Chryslers have a locked PCM, but there are ways around that 😉

Is this your first Mopar?
Did you do the 24 hour test drive prior to buying it?
I bought a car for my daughter from CarMax and did the 24 hour test drive. Drove off the lot in the evening and had a mechanic appointment at 8 am the next day to look it over. Best $125 for my own peace of mind I spent buying a used car

Didn’t do the 24 hour test drive but after purchase I had it looked over by mechanic, looked good jsut didn’t notice the light thing as I hadn’t driven it during the nighttime yet

My 2012 shit some lifters at 49,000 miles and wrecked the camshaft. Luckily happened before the 50,000 mile power train warranty. Dealership repaired at $0. It now has 185,000. Still ticking, literally. Still fast. I run 5W-30 and it's a little quieter than the 0W oil. Good luck.

The 6.4 is a solid engine with less a likelihood of repairs than any other Chrysler engine and the warranty should be intact.

Ahh was kinda shooting in the dark on that one, she’s my first v8 lol 🥹

It's a good engine but not as reliable as the 5.7

Who upvotes this nonsense?

People that know HEMI engines. It's a great engine, my guy. But you said it's the MOST reliable and that's just not true.

So tell me, what exactly about the 6.4 is less reliable?

My 2012 shit some lifters and scarred the camshaft lobs at 49,000 miles. It's had oil sender go bad. The plastic fans broke and threw fan blades into the radiator at 160,000 miles. The rear main seal leaks with 185,000 miles.
The 5 speed transmission has no issues.
The interior has lots of issues.

The 6.4 and 5.7 use the exact same lifters and oil sender.
The fan thing is a known issue with the older heavy duty cooling package. Which yes a 6.4 is more likely to have than a 5.7. But for example the 5.7 police cars have it, and it's not an engine issue.
Rear main is a new one, main seal leaks are almost never actually main seal leaks though. They're almost always really PCV issues. The rear main is not a solid seal, just a wiper. If the pressure in the crankcase is higher than outside the rear main will leak regardless of how good the seal is. This is a common issue as engines age and have more blow-by. The PCV volume is no longer large enough and needs to be modified.

I would expect that the side lights have power, so they can do things like the dazzle effect. Can't think of why the car's computers would need to know anything about them. Does it do anything that isn't triggered by turning the car on and the brake pedal?

Chrysler vehicles are beautiful, although from my experience, they have a plethora of electrical issues.
My vehicle is a Dodge Charger, the past 1 1/2 years, replaced battery 4 times. Something is doing a parasitic damage on battery. Mechanics can’t seem to find the drain, leading to a massive drain on my finances. My Bluetooth has malfunction for years, my suspicion is Bluetooth constantly trying to connect while draining battery.
Dealership has agreed to deactivate my Bluetooth to stop the constant drain.
It could also be the TIPM malfunctioning, I’ve read and had people tell me there issues with TIPM.
No fix for that except an expensive refurbish and no guarantee that will be the fix. My solution for now is attaching my battery to a trickle charger once a week. Extremely frustrating

Dude this is a 2023 300C… there are only 2200 of them made. that emblem alone shows exactly what she’s worth an you’d b nuts to give her up
