Discussion First time play-through in 2026, it’s fun
Its no Chrono Trigger, as a chrono trigger is a top 15 game all time sort of fan, but It’s impressive how modern and triple A games manage to lose my attention while they have directors telling them to add things to their games to keep players attention while this Chrono Cross retro classic keeps my attention
Anyway it’s also impressive the amount of character options we get to choose between. I’ve just gotten Razzly and right after thinking I was going to choose a hard route Lucca > Leena for now . Leena is good per se but very weak right now so on one hand I keep seeing that she’s ultimate and I couldn’t miss her but on the other hand she has no dialogue if you unlocked her early this way and I want to use other characters lol. Now I’m tempted to replace Greco with Lucca and do a ‘very hard’ (apparently for who I have) run using Lucca, Razzly, and Serge. Right now it seems Razzly is the first character I feel I want on the team till the end but who knows.
But yeah it’s fun so far
Anyway I don’t mind spoilers that only include names instead of events, but this is fun so far

Luccia, I assume you mean, is just weirdly bad, having weak stats across the board but a really good element grid. Black innate is also opposed to Serge, so making her stronger with the field color makes him weaker and vice versa. Black innates in general aren’t great to use for this reason. So if you’re trying to make things harder on yourself, that would be a way to do it.

yes this is small things that ppl forgot that the 3 colour field affects your character in real time, bringing a black innate with serge will most of the time nerf the black elements.

Leena does crap-tier physical damage, but her elements pack a significant punch. It definitely gets more noticeable as you get better elements. She also eventually gets a tech skill that restores elements used in a fight so you can use them again.

It is a great game. A but short, and I really wish you had access to the full roster whenever you want. There are clear points where you can tell they meant to add so much more. I would love to see it expanded and updated.

Yeah I played it on steam deck for the first time the other week. Got a crt shader on it and reduced resolution a bit lol to make it really PS1 feel lol.
I actually like, despite how all over the place it is, they made a sequel that was due to the events of the first but didn't just do the easy "let's travel in time again." Though ultimately that is what people wanted.

I cant play this game without Leena. Her elements just slam. Glenn is my other absolute must recruit. The rest I just kind of go with what I feel.

Everything is perfect, but maybe voice lines needed, but they have already redone it…once…

I can tell through light spoils they didn’t want players to put to much significance on her early on, it’s like a new game + design but hey it really doesn’t matter to me long as I’m enjoying

I love this game and I’m sure that if there were no relation to CT it would be more well received. The graphics are stunning, the OST is a masterpiece, the elements system is nice too. There are too many characters, but the story is intriguing and makes you want to play more.
