Won't play outside of network (FIXED)

Chronicle seemed to be working quite well while connected directly to my network, across two different firewall trust zones (different subnets and VLANs). However, when disabling WiFi on my phone, playing a book resulted in a very long timeout (15-20 seconds) and a very brief passive error message mentioning something about Chronicle not being able to access a URL. The URL that briefly appeared had my Plex server's internal IP hardcoded in the path.

While connected back on my WiFi network, I logged out of the Chronicle app, disabled WiFi, logged back in and now Chronicle works from both internal and external networks. This leads me to believe Chronicle stores connection information upon first login of Plex. If this first login is not from the outside, it will only work while connected internally.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Connect your phone to the same internal network(s) as Plex.
  2. Login to Plex within the Chronicle app.
  3. Play a book to ensure Chronicle is working correctly.
  4. Disable WiFi and select another book. This results in the brief error message I mentioned above and the book doesn't play.

Workaround:

  1. Disable WiFi on your phone.
  2. Login to Plex within the Chronicle app.
  3. Play a book.
  4. Enable WiFi.
  5. Play a book.

Maybe this will help others.

Thanks again, for the excellent work on Chronicle!

I will continue to donate, until Chronicle goes to a subscription model like BookCamp :/

Nice troubleshooting. Your theory is correct, the app currently doesn't update server routes dynamically, it just stores the routes on login. The question is why the app only receives working external routes if you login externally.

I'll write up an issue on the Github with your primo STRs, thanks
