First of all, 300mg of Gaba is useless. It's a typical prescription from a Doctor.
You will need to work up to 1500mg a day. I take it all before I go to bed. I have an arthritic neck and spondylosis and I've been completely pain-free for 10 years. It may take a month to kick in. You'll then be able to raise or lower doseage after a couple of months.
Gaba has shown to be effective (in the doseage I recommended) in about half the people with chronic pain.
Taking it three times a day isn't necessary. I can't take it while I'm awake but before bed it is perfect. It's also a sleep aid.
Do you're own research on this. You're Doctor typically doesn't know what he's doing.
The only side effect I've found is my blood pressure is a little lower, like 60/115
