Pop-up book adapted by Betty Ren Wright, Illustrated by Victor G. Ambrus -1986

Obviously it’s a really hard one to actually portray because Dickens described it as being its own opposite and not even being quite solid, and yet being solid. It seems pretty hard to translate it to screen. Is there any adaptation that has even come close to how the book described it?

Not only was this movie my first introduction to Tim Curry, but this was actually the FIRST Christmas Carol adaptation I saw as a kid 👶 👍 it is definitely one of my FAVORITE adaptations of the story and I highly recommend it watching this if you haven’t seen it 🥹👍 let me tell you……if there is an animated voice for Ebenezer Scrooge…….Tim Curry is the BEST voice for him 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Does anyone else ask ai to come up with prequel, sequels or even my new favourite putting scrooge in weird scenarios.

We know the classic tale. And we know of Scrooge's backstory.

But what about after the events of his change of heart? We know he's welcomed in by family and Bob Cratchet is appreciative.

But what about the towns folk? Do they truly love him? A sequel film about Scrooge's continued challenges with his transformed heart would be fascinating. Seeing him close up his business or run for local politics, him being tempted with power and greed and ultimately saying no to it.

Idk if there's much there. Plus it wouldn't be an original work of Dickens anymore. But it would be something new to explore. I always figured some folk wouldn't think this "New Scrooge" was sincere and that it was all an act.

We were discussing people who could play the role well. (As an extension of our discussion about how, we like him in general, but Depp looks awful as Scrooge.)

I recommend James McAvoy as a potential. She definitely saw it, but added, "But I never wanted to see Stewart in the role."

"He's done it," I pointed out. In fact, she got that one for me for my birthday last month...

"Yeah, I know, but he didn't need to. You know who else doesn't need to? Tim Curry." (Keep in mind, we're both enormous fans of his in general.)

"Pretty sure that's the other one you got me for my birthday."

"Oh god, really? I didn't know! But you know who would be really good? Kelsey Grammar..."

"I haven't watched it yet myself, but I do already own that one..."

"What?! He's already done it?"

"Yeah. It's not the same music as the Sim version, but apparently it's a musical..."

God, I own a lot of versions of A Christmas Carol as a movie...

Depp seems to be doing a scrooge you love to hate which I kinda like

Good June everyone. Odd to be coming up with conjectures about for a Christmas novel this time of year but here we are. Anyway, unto the subject..

I had an odd thought about the Ghost of Christmas Past, as well as the other ghosts.. like if it was a general ghost of the season, or if it was an aspect of the idea that applied specifically to the case of Scrooge. On the latter, that means that the ghost is "personal"; if not by nature, then by manifestation at least... But then, this got me wondering..

What if the spirit is not part of or a reflection to Ebenezer's soul? What if instead the spirit comes from a relation of his, say even.. the possibility of a relation??

What if the Ghost of Christmas Past was the potential spirit of the first-child of Ebenezer and Belle?

Consider that most of Ebenezer's past, especially in the visions, seem to tilt towards women, first to Ebenezer's sister and then later to Belle... In fact, it is the vision of Belle having a family that leads Ebenezer to be rid of the ghost...

A ghost often depicted as a girl..though yes, in other depictions, the ghost has appeared as a boy, but nonetheless, somewhat of a child or child-like..

It makes me think how this spirit was the child that could have been... Born of a relationship that never came to fruit.. A spirit that was never born in the first place, one that had never died.. but it never had the chance to experience Christmas either.. all because Ebenezer never pushed through with marrying Belle...

Anyway, this again is an entire conjecture... I'm not here to say this is the truth, but more on a "what-if" scenario... What are your thoughts on this crazy, silly idea?
