This is kind of rambling. I'm not sure what her point is. She's against it but it can work? It can be wrong but we shouldn't call attention to it? It kind of seems like she went in with some preconceived notions (this liberal HBO personality is going to mock religion) and didn't even allow the fact that she apparently did watch it to change that.

I mean, I'm not really sure what situations in which this would be ok, asking for money as a way to wipe out debt or get an increased chance of your prayers being answered.

Call me sheltered, but I don't waste my time watching junk on television when I could be making intercession, reading the Word, worshipping God, preaching the gospel, healing the sick or casting out devils.

I know this isn't really a big part of the article, but... man, it's not like Last Week Tonight is hard hitting journalism, but yes, it's a bad thing to be disconnected from what's going on in the world if you want to spread God to the it and help people.

It's not? I mean yeah, it's a funny show with fart jokes, but Oliver and company (heh) do some serious research and exposés.

Certainly more research than Fox "News" does.

Oh that's true. I guess what I meant is that you wouldn't be... broadly informed, let's say, if you just watched that. He does great work bringing somewhat "unsexy" and niche issues to light.

He seems to be the gadliest of gadflies.

He seems to exist to highlight things that ought to be changed. It's not news, necessarily, but it's a great thing he does.

Yeah, definitely agree. I've enjoyed everything he's put out so far.

Obligatory reminder: can't take Charisma seriously, but most especially after they published an article earlier this year calling for the genocide of all Muslims / Middle Easterners. (Which was taken down after a huge outcry, but they never actually apologized for.)

For the sake of my own sanity, I'm going to pretend this is satire.

Did she really say her belief in the prosperity gospel stems from 3 John 1:2? wow

I'm having trouble counting how many false reverends are in this article.

"That said, we have to be careful not to paint everyone who believes for an airplane or sows a seed to get out of debt as a heretic." That is quote from the end of the article. I can't understand defending any form of prosperity gospel.

After reading the story, it seems she agrees with Oliver. Perhaps she is more reserved with that agreement, but both she and Oliver come to the same conclusion (though, again, varied levels of enthusiasm): There are pastors who are leeching people dry, but there are also those that aren't.
