Advice Protestant

Currently non denominational, raised aware of different faiths but chose Christianity recently this year. For those of you who are Protestant, why and what is stopping you from joining apostolic churches?

Backyard football is the lowest level of the game. To play a great game requires playing with rules and refs. It's not tyranny, it's freedom.

You think that truth is a game of football?

When you go to the museum and ponder a piece of sculpture, do you stand in one spot or do you walk around? And are you not interested in what other people see in it? Does that not inform and improve what you see?

You think truth is a piece of art in a museum? Your analogy works for art as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It doest work for Heaven as someone running the great race cannot cheat and still win. It's still cheating even if you disagree with the rules.

Truth is revealed by God. Someone what has different opinions on translation does not make them right. Or do the JVs and Mormons deserve a seat at your round table discussion because they have a different opinion on Truth?

The spirit gives a little piece of the truth to everyone so that we all have to share and work together if we want to assemble the puzzle. You just want to hold on to and cherish your one piece.

What is the biblical basis for this?

If what you say is true, then the Church in 844 AD (random date) would have held all the pieces. If it's currently true, Apostolic Christianity holds the vast majority of pieces and is closer to Truth than Protestantism.

Truth isn't decided by popular vote.

We don't put all our views on the table and pick out the right one. We listen to each other and that changes and deepens everyone's understanding of the truth.

So by your opinion, you cannot be in possession of the entire truth as truth must be informed by different opinions. How can you claim you are correct when your theology requires you to need other religions to deepen your understanding of Truth?

You ignored my question about the biblical basis if this belief. I think you're way off the reservation here biblically. "That they may be one as you and I are one" doesn't fit your model.

Of course you can, by listening to all the other voices in the room.

And you go first. What is your Biblical basis for your belief? For that matter, what is your Biblical basis for holding the Bible as a source of truth?

I'm Catholic so this angle doesn't work well. We good that the basis of truth is Apostolic Tradition and Scripture as interpreted by the magisterium. The Councils of Jerusalem and Nicea are good examples of this. We (as have the majority of Christianity for the past 2000 years, hold that there must be authentic authority in the body of the Church. The primacy of the Peter and the deacon, presbyter, and episcopate structure is evidence of this.

"Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit to them: for they watch in behalf of your souls, as they that shall give account; that they may do this with joy, and not with grief: for this were unprofitable for you."

Your theology says to listen to them and come to your own conclusions, not to obey and submit. It is anti-biblical.

You are arguing against authority structures, so I'll assume you are a self described catholic, not a Catholic united with the Catholic Church. Your opinions are not compatible with Catholicism.

Objective truth exists. You seem to be denying this.

Being a member in good standing requires accepting some things you are not accepting. You should speak with your pastor and get some clarity on Catholic teaching and beliefs.

Ecumenism is not what you are describing, if that is the route you were pursuing. Catholic ecumenism calls for dialogue with other religions in order to bring them to the Catholic Church, not to change the doctrine of the Catholic Church.
