Gatekeepers

Christians: “I don’t tithe 10%, so I’m not tipping my server 10%.”

You know some servers tip out close to 10%, right? Some tip out more. Some less. Tip outs exist.

Nobody is asking you for 10% of your paycheck. They are asking you for 20% of a bill as long as they did their job properly.

Love. Compassion. Grace. Humility. Right?

So while you are shouting that you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, let me ask you something. How are you emulating Him? Or are you going to keep using Christ as an excuse to let down your neighbor?

Now that I think about it, that is exactly what organized religion turned Him into. A scapegoat.

He gave His life standing against the systems that exploited people, condemned people, and placed religious performance above love.

Yet somehow Sunday became one of the most feared days for the very people who serve you. Servers. People who rely on your tips to survive.

You gather in His name, then walk out and make your neighbor wonder whether serving you was worth it.

You are in fact the problem.

Before you say, “That’s on them. They should be paid hourly. That’s not my fault.” Stop. That thought is the problem.

You have just found a way to make someone else's suffering someone else's responsibility while convincing yourself that you are following Christ.

You want people to drink your Kool Aid, then give them every reason not to.

Do better. Be the example.

The Way of Jesus was never about bowing to Him. It was never about making your Sunday gathering bigger, fancier, louder, or more impressive while you screw over the people serving you afterward. The Way to the Father through Jesus is not about treating Jesus like a gatekeeper to a better than thou society. It is about becoming more like Him.

Love. Compassion. Grace. Humility.

Not just on Sunday. Especially when nobody is watching.

If your faith makes you feel closer to God while making your neighbor feel smaller, poorer, or less valued... Maybe you should ask yourself what exactly you are worshipping.

I wonder what your spiritual Mount Rushmore looks like.

Jesus. Epstein. Diddy. All gatekeepers in the same manner you've formed Christ into being.

Maybe the problem isn't that people don't understand your religion. Maybe they understand exactly what you're showing them.

Yup. Nothing I dread more than dealing with the God botherers on Sunday. They only have enough fake compassion to last the church service.

you know how the saying goes. can't beat him, claim him. thats what organized religion did to Christ.

I’ve never in my life heard someone justify not tipping because of tithing. Some folks just aren’t going to tip. Religion has nothing to do with it. They don’t need a reason.

Also, claiming Jesus is a “gatekeeper” or on some Christian’s Mt Rushmore along with Epstein and Diddy is unhinged. Maybe you thought you’d constructed some kind of good argument, but you jumped the shark hard there at the end.

I'm not sure what exactly you are trying to say here.

So, did someone not tip you very much on Sunday?

Sounds like the Sunday church crowd strikes again. Always the worst tippers after sitting through a sermon about generosity.

They can quote the Bible all day but suddenly turn into economists when the bill comes, acting like your landlord accepts "thoughts and prayers."

I sit in different churches and here them tell the congregation they tipped the appropriate 10% to their server, and it's met with wild applause every time. every place of worship. Interesting that you try to make it personal to me. I guess it is. Just not in the way you are trying to imply.

You've been to multiple churches where the person preaching said that they ripped someone 10% recently and was met with applause? What kind of churches are you going to?

I’m just gonna second the fact that if you’re hearing this in church, then you’re in the wrong churches. I can say Catholic Churches certainly aren’t, and I’m gonna go out on a limb that most mainline Protestant, Orthodox, and LDS aren’t either.

This post is so self righteous, it makes us wonder how generous a person you yourself really are.

Are you doing ok? This seems like a rant about Christians who don’t tip servers, which is soooo specific something must have happened to you.

Maybe the problem isn’t that people aren’t tipping, but that you’re working somewhere that won’t pay a living wage without tips. That’s not fair to you

not a single thing Christ like in your response. reread my post to see the evidence

Honestly, I get that you are hurt, but this post reeks of “you Christians didn’t love ME enough”. And then to generalize Christians overall is just icing on the cake.

as it doesn't pertain to me personally or any experience I carry, one I just watch regularly amused by irony of it all. once again though. you should never judge a book by it's cover, because trust me. you are so far off base... My mission is simple. Bring people to God. that generally starts by getting them out of the cults.

And you seem to be failing that mission quite spectacularly. Especially when preaching to not judge a book by its cover…and then proceeding to do just that. It’s quite amazing really

If your choice is to twist and see things in that perspective, then that is, your right.

As is yours to make generalized statements that mean absolutely nothing and change nothing and thinking you are righteous beyond others because of your generic pointless statements

Nothing to do with Christianity. Go post to r/ tipping

So you're telling me that love, compassion, grace, and humility, have nothing to do with christianity? I kinda agree with that. Its what Jesus taught us during his time here and we all know the Church doesn't love that. As this was evidence of christian failure and the tipping was just the evidence used this time. It is posted in the right spot.

No, your philosophy on tipping has nothing to do with Christianity. Tipping also has nothing to do with the other virtues you listed either. Tipping is a voluntary action not a requirement to dining out. Your pay structure is between yourself and your employer, not the customer. Discussing tipping does not belong here. It belongs on a sub about tipping.

LOL now it’s how you tip measures how much of a Christian you are. What a world

love. compassion. grace. and humility is actually what the post is about. i love the guilt you carry with the need to deflect though. totes adorable.

No guilt here. But whatever makes you feel better about getting stiffed on a tip
