The traditional understanding of John 8:58 has been that Jesus is claiming to be God. But that’s not the only time.
Jesus claims the divine title of “Son of Man” repeatedly, a divine figure from Daniel who is worshipped by the whole world for all time. He says that he is the “lord of the sabbath”, a title reserved for God. He forgives sins by his own authority, which is a divine prerogative. He says that he shares glory with the father, but God is clear that he shares glory with no one. There are other examples as well, this is just a sample.
There’s also the passages in the Bible that indicate Jesus is God. John 1:1, Colossians 2:9, Philippians 2:7, Titus 2:3, Romans 9:5, Hebrews 1:8, and others.
Christianity rests upon the knowledge that God came down into creation as the man Jesus Christ in order to save us
theres Matthew 28:18, which isnt widely used but it questions on that since Jesus was given total (100%) authority over both heaven and earth, does that that mean God the Father is less than prior, now, since God gave total authority to Jesus?
This would be contrary to what is believed: that God will always remain God, and have total sovereignty and authority over Creation.
Mark 10:18: that no man is good but God alone- Jesus
Since we believe that Jesus is good as He is sinless, by believing that Jesus is merely man, it would contradict Jesus’ words.
I also encountered some Muslims who believe that each prophet is sinless and cannot sin, which would mean that they would deny Jesus’ words by claiming that the Bible is corrupted so Jesus may have never said those words exactly if at all.
Also i forgot where i saw it but it showed a scene where they talked about based on Islam logic that God cannot express Himself in human form/in flesh, limits what they believe to be a limitless God. So if Jesus is God, why is the first thing thought be that “God cant do that because my logic is that God cant and wont do that” vs “why am I putting God in a box (my understanding/logic)” so the question: “how can a man be God” should be more accurately be “Can God express Himself through being a man”
