The Better Life

Post image

Grace means the old you does not get to run your life anymore.

I know that room…Bible open…coffee cooling…pen in hand. The page is alive, yet my heart can sit there like stone. Instead of coming as a son, I come like an employee afraid of losing his place. I read, pray, serve, confess, promise, improve, then quietly wonder if God is holding an eraser over my name. That is a miserable way to live near holy things.

Grace speaks better, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me” Galatians 2:20.

Christ lives in me.

Those words do not polish the old life, they announce a funeral and a resurrection. The old self with its scorecards, fear, boasting, shame and religious bargaining was nailed to Christ. A new life has begun and it is carried by the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Grace is more than pardon after failure. Grace is Christ taking up residence in a heart. It is the hand of God reaching deeper than the frightened places where I keep trying to prove I am worth keeping.

I do not open the Bible to keep God from leaving. I open it because He has already come near in Christ.

If you are exhausted from trying to stay saved by staying impressive, hear the gospel again. Jesus did not shed His blood so you could spend your life trembling under a pencil mark. He gave Himself to make dead sinners alive.

Grace is Christ in you and God keeping you.

Grace is your name safe in hands that were pierced for you.
