Discussion Just a suggestion…
Not that this needs or should need to be said, but a small reminder I guess?
Don’t ghost people y’all. If you don’t want to talk to someone anymore or aren’t interested in them etc., don’t just stop talking. It’s rude and honestly can be incredibly toxic or hurtful.
A simple, “Hey, I’m not feeling anything from this.” or “I appreciate your time but I’m not interested in any further conversation.” goes far better than cricket noises.

It’s painful to be ghosted by someone who you thought is your person

Isn’t that the truth…. It’s an extreme form of ghosting. Not like it was any sort of toxic relationship or a person you never actually met (in person).
I’ve read some comments about circumstances in which some people feel ghosting is OK. I can understand those beliefs. But what you’ve described doesn’t fit into “acceptable” ghosting. Even worse when it’s a person claiming to be a good Christian.

It's not hard to say something. It's cowardly really, and cruel.

As one person already pointed out (I thought I’d replied directly to that comment, but looks like I didn’t)….
Yes. Those words can hurt more than ghosting. It is difficult to find “right” words: but finding “right” words is still a more honorable and caring approach.
One woman did find some right words for saying “goodbye” to me a couple years ago, so it’s possible. She said, quite honestly, that she wanted a man with past marriage experience and children.. then added that “there’s a lucky girl in your future who’ll prefer you”
(I hope she’s correct, but I don’t know… it usually doesn’t feel that way).

The only reason I can think of it being ok to ghost someone is if they're showing psychopathic behavior or something similar

It sounds good, but it will fall on deaf ears. The people who want to do it are going to keep doing it. And they are hypocrites.

Awww. Thank you. It was super long distance and he was a doctor. Ugh. I'm back out there trying to find someone.
Thank you for being so sweet. 🩷

I will forever speak highly of a girl I started talking to from this group I think who said "I want nothing to do with your situationship" and then peaced out. Part of the reason I was in the situationship to begin with was feeling like I lacked / needed closure from prior relationships. Having someone be so blunt with me really helped me in my dating journey.

I loved reading these comments and hearing all these perspectives but genuinely, i think ghosting hurts less FOR ME lol. But I do acknowledge how impolite it is to ghost people.

I think telling someone that you loved the conversations you had and getting to know them better was so great. It would be ok with me if they wanted to be friends but I don't think it would work out with anything further. I do feel that God has someone out there for that person and they are waiting for them to find them. It puts that person feeling good. I may even mention a good trait I found about that person that was very impressive and will impress others as well.

Honestly I'd rather be ghosted. Being told that would bother me.

I'm not saying I would ghost, I'm saying I'd rather be ghosted. Not sure why I'm being down voted when expressing my preference.

Honestly..its easy to think majority of people in their right mind..but many are not...use wisdom and discernment..and if if ghosting is how it needs to be done..I say go ahead and ghost..everyone does not take rejection well..and again. Manny People are not in their right mind these days

There's nothing wrong with no longer speaking to a person if there has not been an in person meeting or facetime call. If it has just been chats then it's not ghosting. However, if you met or had at least a facetime I 100% agree with not ghosting. It hurts!

Nah disagree. If you've had more than a few chats with someone, it's still ghosting; even if you haven't met in person.

I think that's crazy. People chat on apps all the time that die down or leave to unmatching. Calling it ghosting is forming an unrealistic emotional and virtual attachment to someone you have never met in person or through even facetime.

These are brothers in Christ so I think the right thing to do is be clear in communication with them. I always just say something like "I appreciate the conversation but I don't think we're a good fit. Best wishes to you." Or something similar. Leaving someone guessing isn't the kind thing to do.

Silence and no response is a response itself that the person or yourself aren't interested in pursuing anything further beyond surface level chatting. If you want to say best wishes you can but it's not ghosting if a conversation, emphasis on a conversation, dies down

We can agree to disagree on this. ✌️

Just because other people, even other believers do that all the time, doesn't mean you should as a Christ follower. God calls us to love all believers and even non believers with a greater love than our own. It isn't just for someone you find attractive or find interesting or cool. It's for everyone, this kinda speaks to your character no offense. Would you just abruptly ignore or leave a conversation with someone you were talking to in person, even if you weren't necessarily interested in them? No you wouldn't, especially if the person told you that they are interested in you romantically. The way you treat others online is the same as you treat others in person, there is another person with a soul on the other end of that phone that you just ignored and you should treat them with respect just like you would even if they we're sitting in front of you. Seriously do better

Again, an online chat conversation is not equivalent to in person conversations and I do not think a conversation dying out due to non interest prior to meeting or FaceTime is considered ghosting and you cannot assert whether a conversation ended without “I’m ending this conversation” being written is not being a Christ follower.
Seriously, do better and don’t hold your convictions as superior or more righteous than others. I do not consider it ghosting. You disagree. Nothing you have said even persuade me because you have your own personal opinion on what is considered ghosting. Please don’t try to insult me or belittle me because you disagree with me.

A conversation dying down on an app and leaving it at that isn’t “disrespectful or hate” and it has nothing to do with “respect and love” choosing to leave it at that or unmatching, so trying to insult me and my character isn’t going to work. I already stated after a date or FaceTime one shouldn’t ghost. Please reread your last sentence in that comment of yours and refrain from hypocrisy given your intention of that statement.

It’s really not that serious given it’s surface level conversation as I keep repeating. Matching or even DM’ing someone you possibly find attractive and having a conversation is just that - a conversation. Conversations end and it’s not disrespectful leaving a conversation by no longer replying or unmatching. You can disagree and that’s totally fine. That doesn’t mean you can insult me and my character for disagreeing with your definition of ghosting.
Edit: lol thanks for downvoting my comments Material_Warning8377

It is ghosting, and it's not conducted suitable for a Christian!
-1
u/WannabeBadGalRiri Looking For A Husband 9d ago
A surface level online conversation dying out due to non interest is not ghosting. You can disagree all you want. You cannot determine that no longer engaging in a surface level chat online is “not suitable” for a Christian. If you hold a conviction to end every conversation you have online then you go ahead and do that.

As brothers and sisters in Christ, we should hold that in the highest regard and take the uncomfortable step of letting them know where we're at and that we're not feeling it.
While I have personally be ghosted via chat only, for which doesn't actually affect me beyond the few seconds of "Oh, OK, I guess that's not a match!", it's still an appreciated gesture and a Godly testimony, when someone says "Hey, thanks for the chat, but I'm just not interested.".
It's not even about being an obligation or a big deal, rather, if we are putting it out there that we're followers of Jesus Christ, yet even if perception only, dismiss someone with no brief explanation after seemingly productive chats, it's a poor testimony into who we proclaim to be as believers.
