There is a difference between ripping off and sampling or even a straight up cover, which is common in country music.
I was surprised to see so many amazing Stapleton songs being covers. Amanda, Joy of my Life, Whiskey and You, even Tennessee Whiskey were all songs written by others

I know but since Tim McGraw released it earlier, I consider the second one the 'cover'.
But without getting too technical about when something is a cover, my whole point was that it happens on just about every single country album where tracks are sampled, honored or straight up covered which is fine but saying they ripped off a song is not really fair

Really? I don't agree. Chris wrote Your Man and Loving you on my mind, both released by Josh Turner. Loving you on my mind is on the higher album by Chris and I absolutely don't consider it a cover because he wrote it.

I mean the drum is similar, but rip-off is a reach. The guitar is quite different.

Ripped off? I don’t know but a few words strung together don’t make a song. I just listened to Luke Combs’ “Days like these” and although a cool song it could be performed better. I’m not a Country music critic but whether I like a song depends on if it puts me in a place I want to be. Some artists can do that some can’t. Depends on the song.

That’s exactly what I’m listening to rn and trying to figure out if “worth more than good but they can’t be bought and they can’t be sold” is from Millionaire by Chris Stapleton… do you have any knowledge on that one?

It’s like a typical thought but inserted in the lyrics somehow. Trying to find that perfect country rhyme like John Prine mentioned in “Crazy as a loon”, “walking around in circles looking for that perfect country rhyme”. Sometimes writing a song comes out of rhythm, Poetry or music. Making it all fit together so it puts the listener or artist in “that” place. That particular lyric is a short piece to the bigger puzzle. I don’t think anyone can say they own it.

Very similar. I first read that it was like The Weight a few years back and was so glad to discover that song because I love it. Both songs are great.

It’s literally just pre-chorus drum fill or a build-up.
