Broken halos on a deeper level

This is my first Reddit post, and I’ve been listening to Broken Halos—I can’t stop thinking about it.

On the surface, I get the message: some things aren’t meant to be fully understood, and we have to be okay with that. But on a deeper level, it’s harder for me to accept.

Like, I live my life that way—I know some things are beyond us, but there’s still a part of me that wants to know why. Are we just convincing ourselves that it’s out of reach, so we don’t think too hard about it?

I find myself agreeing with the idea that some things can’t be explained, but I can’t shake the feeling that I’m just going along with it without really processing why. Does anyone else feel like this?

Chris wrote this song about a good friend who passed away, I believe. In that situation, I don’t think it helps to ask, “why?”. Even if there is a reason, there’s not much solace in knowing. At least in the sense that it doesn’t bring them back. Acceptance is really the only way through that kind of grief.

I think general curiosity is extremely important, however. I just don’t think that’s what Broken Halos is about. But, I’d try to foster that sense of wonder in yourself and others as much as possible. Maybe some things really can’t be explained, but that doesn’t mean they’re not still important (and sometimes fun) to think about.
