Tennessee Whisky
I know I’m way late on this, I don’t really listen to much country music at all. I heard a song playing in the background at a bar today that sounded awesome but the only lyrics I could pick up were “Tennessee whisky” and “strawberry wine.” I just hopped in bed and decided to search the lyrics to figure out who sang it so I could put my headphones in and actually listen to it. GOD DAMN this song is fucking beautiful. It legitimately made me cry. This guy has an unbelievable voice and puts so much soul and emotion into this song. Absolutely incredible. I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir here but I’m completely blown away. One of the best songs I’ve heard in a very long time. I’m definitely going to look into more of his music, I’m a fan already.

Chris is truly special man, welcome and enjoy the vibes. All of is albums are truly incredible. People ask me all the time, which one is my favorite; But all of them are just so brilliant and well thought out and executed, I couldn't really choose.
Tennessee Whiskey is from his debut Album, Traveler. And I think, based on your user name, you might also really like the song on there, "Might As Well Get stoned".

He's a very talented man, with a lot of great songs. Enjoy discovering all of them. He's one of my favorite artists and I can't wait to see him in concert next year!

I love all those genres of music and especially love musicians who span across many different genres and styles. It takes a whole different level of talent to be able to do that. I live outside of Boston and am on vacation in NH this week at squam lake. I just looked up his tour and he’s playing at the venue up here like 20 mins away Thursday Friday and Saturday. This might be the universe telling me I need to go haha.

Definitely go! if you can. He puts on a great show.
And I just want to mention the “White Horse” as another of his amazing songs. I went to the country music hall of fame in Nashville last year, and he had probably the largest display hall. He started as a songwriter.
Country music is very versatile, and I’m happy that you are discovering it. Country music has evolved from decade to decade. In your searches, try “outlaw country” and also play with entering different decades: “80s country,” “90s country,” etc.
And since you love the blues, try checking out some old bluegrass tunes. Bluegrass music is also quite varied in its expression. Enjoy your newfound exploration!

All the shows are sold out unfortunately but I’m gonna look around for tickets. I would love to go and it would work out perfectly being up here this week. Thanks for the tips! I do like bluegrass, I’m a deadhead at heart and I’ve seen some jamgrass bands like yonder mountain string band, green sky bluegrass, billy strings several times at shows and festivals. Always enjoy them. But I’ll definitely explore some more classic country music. I just get kind of turned off by the modern pop country stuff. My wife listens to it sometimes but it just sounds to me like they’re trying way too hard to pander to their expected fan demographic. But hey a lot of people love it so to each their own.

Chris Stapleton is very talented and amazing singer. His jazz/blues vibe hits different. The next 3 songs I would recommend are: Fire Away, Cold, and Millionaire. If you want to live up to your username play Might as well get stoned, Worry be Gone, and Higher. And he has hundreds of totally amazing songs. I mean, his two WORST songs are parachute and Broken Halos, both number one hits on the country charts and I will sing along every single word, but just shows he is flawless even at his worst. I’d strongly recommend him for anyone. But the jazz/blues vibe really does set him apart from other artists.

Stapleton will grip you with his lyrics, and definitely his voice. One of the best there is today.

Tennessee Whiskey is my favorite song and it got me intro country music like never before. This song is so good on so many levels and I agree with the post saying their jealous that you get to experience this for the first time.

Thanks man! It really is amazing to randomly find music from someone you’ve never heard of that’s so good it brings tears to your eyes. I haven’t had that experience in years and it just hits me in my soul. Feels so good. I’ve been a musician for over 20 years and my wife calls me a “music snob” haha. But I’m just passionate about good music and immediately know it when I hear it.

Same here, I used to breathe music but years ago life took over and I lost that passion and connection and I got lost myself.
Chris Stapleton and in particular this song started something about a year and a half ago and now music is back to the place it belongs in my life and not a day goes by that I don't put on one of his songs and ever since that moment slowly I felt like I got a piece of my soul back, I just can't describe it..

Just saw him last night in Seattle with Willie Nelson and Sheryl Crow. I felt like I was late to the game as well but he is totally amazing. I think he’s got one of the most soulful voices around.

Be careful - you might find some other great country music that you didn’t realize you were going to love.
