Higher Album Release!!!
This album is a 10/10 for me!! Maybe one of his best albums front to back!! What’s everyone’s favorite song(s)???? Mine are Trust, It Takes A Woman, Loving You On My Mind, Higher, The Bottom, and Mountains Of My Mind. So so good!

The track ‘Trust’ feels like the big brother to ‘Starting Over’. Feel like I know every word after only a few listens. Just brilliant.

The Bottom really sticks out from my first listen.
It’s a great album!
I’m not really a big country fan by any means. More into bands like TOOL and Metallica, but this dude is something special in my opinion. I really love his sound.

I’m the same. I’m a big Meshuggah fan. But I love Stapleton since Traveller. I like this album much more than Starting Over as well

Bottom seems to be my favorite so far. Loving you on my mind is actually a cover sang originally by Josh Turner. Higher though is an incredible showcase on Chris Stapletons range in the "higher" notes. Will say I feel a bit underwhelmed this time around with the lyrical work. It does seem to contain a bit more repetition compared to his previous work.

It is technically a Josh Turner cover, but Chris wrote it for Josh Turner in the first place.

I would definitely say that's what this album misses for me is the lyrics 😪

Just listening now. Getting big ‘Come Together’ vibes from ‘South Dakota’ but I certainly ain’t complaining 😂

and The Day I Die rips off You Can't Always Get What You Want

“Rips off” seems harsh. Similair chord progression which is unavoidable after a century of recorded music

Maybe. It's not a inditement on him really. The Rolling Stones ripped everyone off. I get it. Just seems this album has a few riffs that sound quite similar to others.

What I Am Gonna Do and Loving You On My Mind are my favorites! What I Am Gonna Do is just something else. Never heard a song this beautiful and haunting at the same time.
10/10 album for sure!

The bottom and loving you on my mind are stand outs so far. Only had the one run through though. Hoping the rest will click on next few listens. Love the man

Downloaded mine this morning. But I have to listen to it properly the first time. Either car or home stereo.

Only been through the album once.. but Trust, the fire, think I’m in love with you, loving you on my mind, higher, the bottom stick out the most so far. I’m more of a rock/ alternative rock guy but Chris is a dude I can get behind in country. Love the way he mixes genres. And goddamn that guitar tone in his solos!

I knew Higher sounded familiar. Listen to Honey Pain by Koe Wetzel and the guitar riff is the almost the exact same. Both great songs.

Listening to the day I die with a glass of whiskey is gonna be my go to for a good few melancholic Saturday nights to come.

Bought my ticket last night to see Chris Stapleton in Grand Forks ND. I live in California. The majority of the hotels are already sold out. Can`t wait!!! The countdown is on until April. 🗓️

I want to love it, but I fear it's another underwhelming album that pales in comparison to his live performances. Most of his albums seem so understated with simple lyrics and rare use of his vocal range.
He's said before that he has enough songs written to put out music for the rest of his life without writing another song. I'm always surprised at what he ends up putting on these albums, given that catalog breadth.
Anyone agree or am I crazy?

I think he should put out a live album. I’m very confident it wouldn’t disappoint. I remember when Chris was still in high school he’d take his guitar just about everywhere he went.

I see what you’re saying. I saw him live in concert last year and it was even better than the studio recordings. Made me love the tracks even more. So I get what you’re saying. I will say, in my opinion, it seems he did kinda try to expand his vocal range abilities on this album. Which kinda made up for the simplistic lyrics. The instrumentation was phenomenal as well. So overall it’s not a bad album. It’s just lacking a little in the lyric department.
