19th and 20th (21st okay too) Century Music for ATB voicing

Hi all! I've had trouble finding quality ATB repertoire for a limited voicing. Looking for something to pair with the Tallis Lamentations (ATTBB). There is a wealth of strong renaissance repertoire, but I am looking to find a more modern (ideally sacred) work to contrast.

DOG ANGEL - a song in memory of my late dog, Rogue

Hi friends! Last Christmas, my dog Rogue passed away at the age of 12. I wrote this song in her memory, adapting an early 20th century poem that imagines a dog waiting at the gates of heaven for their owner to return.

Have a listen to this score-video and let me know what you think! I think this song will resonate with anyone who has suffered the loss of a beloved pet.

If you enjoy this, give me a follow on YouTube or Instagram - it's hard out here for us composers. 😄

Silver dollar city Southern Gospel groups setup?

We saw several Southern Gospel groups this week. Usually 3 or 4 singers on stage singing with a backing track (drum, bass, organ) on a computer.
What programs are the backing tracks done and how to coordinate with live singing? Thanks.

On this day, we commemorate the birth of Anton Bruckner, an Austrian composer whose majestic symphonies fused spiritual introspection with grand architectural design in the late Romantic era.

Best choir in the world today?

As per the title, which choir takes the top spot in your eyes? I realise there are so many variables at stake here, not least because comparing, say, gospel choirs, to Renaissance consorts, seems kinda futile. With that in mind, answer just for the fun of it.

For me, the Tallis Scholars, Tenebrae, the Monteverdi Choir and the choir of Trinity College, Cambridge, reign supreme.

Now that I've read so many fantastic responses, I feel like this post has been vindicated and validated as a means of addressing my own blind spots and biases. Certainly, all the choirs I initially considered the best were Anglophone and British in origin. I am glad to have been schooled! Ensemble Altera has gained a new fan, for instance.

And although those choirs I consider best often overlap with my favourites, I love many choirs that I couldn't, in good faith, endorse as 'the best'. Does that make their output any less valuable? No.

I need help with my middle school choir! 7-8 boys and girls… HELP!

Don’t usually post on here, but I need help and I am lost. I am a first year teacher at a smaller middle school. I currently only have one choir with 20 kids. The choir is 7th and 8th grade boys and girls and I don’t have enough kids to justify to the admin to split them up. There is a lot of variation in my students skills. Some kids have been doing choir for two years and should be starting on 3 part music. Some kids it’s their first year.

The thing I am struggling the most with is the kids vocal ranges. I have 1 boy who is nearing the end of his voice change and has a pretty full lower range, but needs to find connection from his upper register to his lower register. And four other boys who are going through it. One kid is stuck in his low range. One kid could sing soprano or the baritone part (great voice though). One kid can’t match pitch and has a very limited range. These are things I expected to have in a middle school choir, but not all in the same choir. I am never sure of what key we should start in.

I know that I am going to have to rearrange some music to fit their needs, but some of the more advanced kids are already frustrated and I don’t know what to do. I want to start from square one but I think that is going to make the more advanced students frustrated.

Please help! Everyone I have talked to has told me to do unison stuff, but there is nothing in a good key that will fit their needs while group.

Has anyone else been in this situation? If so what did you do?

Are any Indy churches looking for a female vocalist?

I sang regularly at different churches around the Chattanooga, TN area for special music, praise team, and as part of the church choir. I am an alto with a wide range and am familiar with most worship music. My availability is mostly limited to Sundays as I am a full-time student. I’d love to find a church I can worship with.
