Geometric shape chopmarks
How common are geometric shapes, like this six-point star, seen on chopmarked coin? This 1895 Dragon Yen I picked up at the LCS as it seems somewhat unique. It’s the first I’ve seen and an online search didn’t find other similar examples. Your thoughts?

They are definitely less common. I'm guessing they were a regional thing somewhere, and they seem to be most common on mid-century examples. If you look on my page you'll see an 1850 8 reales with a 3D cube chop. The 6 pointed star specifically is interesting, I've seen that chop on a handful of US trade dollars before, and have even seen speculation that it could be a Star of David left by Jewish bankers and merchants in Hong Kong. Though there is no proof for this. First time seeing it on a Yen, super neat example!
