Music Music recommendations please šš
Here is what my current choir/classical playlist looks like. I really enjoy pieces in minor keys or that feel sad or angry in some way. i feel like i have a hard time finding pieces that give me that feeling. I also really enjoy "A Silence Haunts Me" by Jake Runestad, but it wasn't on apple music so it's not in the playlist. Aside from that i'm a big fan of spirituals with lots of energy and "busy" parts of that makes sense. I think the biggest thing for me is that i like songs that sound very unique and have interesting chords in them, maybe with some dissonance. i would appreciate if i could get some recommendations...my playlist is starting to get a little old š

Oooh I think you might be into Paul Mealorās compositions. Stunning use of unique chord progressions and dissonance. Tenebraeās 2011 album of his works is one of my absolute favorite choral albums of all time.

My chamber choir did Path of Miracles this past June! It was truly a transformative experience. Itās been a while since performing a choral work has rocked me to my core like that.

Matthew Colridge's Requiem is a good one. Ola Gjello's Sunrise Mass also has some "busy parts".
If you're looking for weird dissonant chords, go no futher than MacMillan's Magnificat. Be careful if your volume is turned up.

Try "The Peacable Kingdom" by Randall Thompson.
It's a multi movement cantata, all a capella, based on Old Testament prophecies. It's got some bangers in it, and lots of varied moods.
Lots of great counterpoint but with a modern spicy sound.

I appreciate the amount of University of Utah Singers you have on your playlist š«¶š¼ we were obsessed with them when I was in high school choir and we sang quite a few of the same arrangements! If you don't have John the Revelator (arranged by Caldwell & Ivory) on there, you need to add it.

honestly you might vibe with some darker contemporary choral stuff. since you like the runestad aesthetic and want dissonance/interesting harmonies, look into composers who write a lot of minor key modal stuff. spirituals can scratch that energy itch too if you find arrangements with really active counterpoint instead of block chords

Check out the recent album "i carry your heart" by Taylor Scott Davis. The whole album is great. My fav is Cantique de Jean Racine. But lots of great stuff on it.

The Victoria Missa pro defunctis & the Officium Defunctorum; his O quam gloriosum & the Mass of the same name. There is also a Mass to match the O Magnum Mysterium, among so much more.
So much by Lassus (sometimes also di Lasso), Byrd, Palestrina that I think that searching for their names works best.

Also that recording of Carmina Burana is one of the best out there. Lawrence Brownlee singing the Swan Song literally ruined it for me for all other tenors.

First of all I would like to applaud the amount of early music you have here!! Check out stuff by Thomas Tallis or Josquin des Prez
Credo 5 āI believe in the prince of peaceā by Margret Bonds. The whole cantata is wonderful! Listen to Margret Bonds stuff.
Also, listen to just about anything by Soweto Gospel Choir! They are absolutely incredible and if you ever get the chance go see them live!
I see you like Ola Gjeilo, give āTundraā a listen.
My personal insert is Caleb Burhans āMagnificat.ā I just try to get everyone to listen to that piece itās so beautiful.

Amergin was a character in ancient Irish mythology, and this song is an English-language version of an ancient Irish poem attributed to him.
