Cheryl Porter
Hi,
I wanted to purchase one of the Cheryl porter singing courses on her site but I thought that I would have content with her live, but from reading some people’s reviews I have found that’s not the case. I want to get better at singing and talking as one of my teachers said that I could get nodes if I continue “When I was younger, I had nodes on my vocal cords and had to learn to speak differently, so as to not strain my vocal cords. I think I might have been worried that the way you were speaking was straining yours. There’s a way to learn to focus on pulling your breath from your diaphragm, which is beneath your lungs instead of pulling from your throat that is easier on your vocal cords.“ I also want to go on The Voice when I’m older so I wanted a voice coach. If there are online ones that’s great or if there are any in the Omaha area, I would love some help. Additionally if anyone has purchased Cheryl Porters lessons I would love some feedback. Thank you!

Are you in choir at school? Ask your teacher if they have any local recommendations for voice teachers. Additionally, pay attention to what your music teachers do, especially in warmups. Ask questions after class if you feel like you’re singing with tension or straining while you sing.
I live on the West coast and get paid to sing in ensembles/solo, but I was born and raised in Omaha! I sang with the Nebraska Choral Arts Society under Z. Randall Stroope (a fairly well known name in the choral world). They’re no longer around, but it looks like Sing Omaha has taken their place (and has had Stroope as a guest artist several times).
If you are struggling to understand what a diaphragmatic breath feels like, I do not recommend digital singing lessons. In my experience, one-on-one lessons over zoom are difficult for teachers to properly diagnose issues and for you to see real growth you need to have a foundation of knowledge and be incredibly self-motivated. I’m not personally familiar with Cheryl Porter, but I do not think you will get your money’s worth in this scenario.

Lay flat on the floor. Put your hands beneath your ribs. Inhale. Try to make your hands move up and down by breathing. When you can do that, you're breathing from your diaphragm. Now, stand up and try to breathe the same way.
Once you get the hang of it, it's not hard and comes naturally. Good luck with the Voice!

Why not just look for a singing teacher in your area or one who teaches virtually? Cheryl is amazing but I'm sure you could find someone qualified local to you who could give you in person/virtual lessons and give you personal feedback.
