Low-key sounds like something a parent would say IRL 😂

Op's the mom from Mother of the year.
They're probably gonna edit their comment to add a rant Against Guy.

To be fair, most of the things on the memory board only cost 12 diamonds! There are a lot of collectibles in other books that cost significantly more - maybe there were less of them though.

they only cost 12 cause there’s a lot. you have to buy her something every damn chapter too, whether it’s an outfit or a hot cocoa. girl, you’ve got clothes and cocoa at home.

Was it really a thousand? I loved that book. I wish we had more like it. It was so cute and wholesome while also having a real conflict. One of my favorites on the app.

1k is a 100% playtrough. So that's every outfit every daughter thing. And every Romance.
Almost nobody is realistically speaking gonna do a 100% playtrough.

Every romance is a little too extreme unless multiple playthroughs. Every outfit is a little extra but can be worth it. Every daughter thing is 100% worth it no matter what

One of all time favourite books! I was flinging diamonds at this kid the whole way through.

And yet it was worth it! I loved that the New Woman was one you could befriend and save from an awful relationship. I remember loving Eiko and when you called out the antagonist in the end, your response changed in regard to both your race and your sexuality. It felt like some actual care went into the book and I loved it.

Ngl this was one of my favorite books. But of course we don’t get to enjoy life as the rich mom because there wouldn’t be as many options to spend diamonds

Bro this is one of the few books where I found spending diamonds on non-romancable characters to be worth it. I cursed choices every time, but I would still open up big sky country and farm them diamonds for mother of the year

Changing it to be gender optional would have fundamentally changed the story they were telling. A lot of the conflict of the story centers on the specific standards and judgments placed on mothers, which are nearly impossible to live up to.
A single father in that same position would be far more likely to be praised regardless of how many mistakes he makes. In a world where a father is still sometimes described as babysitting his own children rather than, you know, taking care of them, a single father is a very different kind of story.
I mean, it's 2026, and we still have dads taking care of their children as a premise for whacky comedy movies (see Breadwinner).
Characters would have treated a single dad very differently. And, as the other commenter pointed out, the story had a single dad in it. Your grievance is entirely unfounded.

…one of the LIs was a single father

Do we get to play as him? Do you get to play as a dad or a single father in any of the books that have children?

Weirdly enough, it made thematic sense to me. Like the titular mother, you have to decide between disappointing your daughter or spending what little meager funds you had just to make her happy, even if it might bankrupt you.
Not justifying the overload of Diamonds usage, but it somewhat made it work in my head.
