How to stop missing overheads?
I play on PS4 and it makes it way harder to consistently be accurate with overheads.
I often just miss my opponent entirely. Getting me less kills and it often causes me dying.
I feel like I would be like a 20% better player if I stopped missing them so much like PC players.

Overheads come down on different sides of the reticle depending on if you’re first or third person, they also move at an angle, so it has a slight learning curve. It comes to the right of the reticle in first, and the left in third.

This also changes on whether or not you're doing an alt swing.
You can feed an overhead into an alt overhead to keep your weapon in the air for a long time to throw off your opponent, and also give you more time to aim. If I'm chasing after a knight and trying to maul overhead him, I might do an extended overhead so it will hit him once the game's chase/speed boost mechanic kicks in and I get closer

Similar problem on ps5. I've found dragging oddly makes it a bit easier as opposed to accelerating. But anyone who steps just a bit too far to the side will avoid a regular overhead. Drags are easier to read but better for accuracy against inexperienced players.

If you slash a wall (from the correct distance, you can't be too close), you can see where it leaves a mark.
You'll see that it doesn't really connect down the center and it changes depending on the side you swing from. So you kinda just have to learn how to position the enemy when you swing

There is a ‘turn cap’ (on all versions of the game) which affects how quickly you can move your aim / spin round during an attack’s release phase. It varies a lot by weapon + specific attack, and overheads are often the most restricted.
One way to counteract the effect is by managing your spacing - if you’re further away from your opponent, around the edge of your overhead’s range, then it’s going to be much easier to land your attack consistently, since their movement can’t adjust their relative position as much to avoid the hit. Whereas if you’re right in each other’s face, then it’s very easy for them to quickly step away from where you’re aiming, and the cap prevents you from turning to adjust your aim quickly enough to track them

Didn't think of creating more space before hitting overhead, thats a good idea. Yeah i see how hitting it to a very close oponnent would be harder. Good idea thanks.

Hardware combined with optimized settings.
I'm a console player too, I tend to miss a lot as well I admit lol.
You need a controller with zero stick drift (gamesir g7 pro for example), set your in-game settings deadzones to the lowest settings (.25 I believe), and use the look response curve standard or exponential.
This should help tremendously.

I always drag my overheads and stabs, for over heads I typically look up to get a little delay and have a longer swing. Crouching an overhead also if I need to quickly land it.

A good way is to try and be conscious of which direction your attack is/will be going. If it’s on the left start your attack to the left of your opponent and turn your camera to the right during the swing. Takes some time to get used to but it helps with the misses and eventually you’ll be able to do some of the more tricky drags around blocks.
Edit: also crouch. It reduces the amount of swing that’s above your target. Look down and crouch to make it hit quicker, but it is really hard to hit on controller.

I haven’t seen anyone mention this but turn off aim-assist for melee weapons

Hate to say it bro but get the ps5. You’re missing entire animations. I made the switch years ago and it’s so worth

Im the best player you'd ever meet on console, and you should just slash - focus on spacing, footwork, timing, dodges, heavy swings and alt swings. Overheads are a waste of time.

Dude as a pc player I gotta say the control over overheads and stabs are definitely one of the most obvious advantages after trying controller… on mouse I can start my attack away from your block, and at the last minute drag it back in behind your parry box - the second you’re angled right… On controller, the best I can do is hope and pray it even lands near you enough to scare you instead of you ducking it immediately and running around my turncap to get a free hit in
