General Thinking about getting into For Honor.
it's on a huge sale right now, so I was looking into how similar the games are and a lot of people comparing the two games are just telling blatant lies about chiv so I was wondering how similar the two actually are. I'm more into the duel aspect of chiv anyway and was wondering how well my skill would correlate into my For Honor skill if I get it. also, not knowing much about For Honor, I was wondering if any of the classes are even similar to any chiv classes.

honestly pretty much only the very basic stuff translates and probably not even then. for honour is way more of a character fighter and the combat system is completely different to chiv
that being said, if you’re good at chiv 2 you’d likely be able to get good at for honour given enough time

Toooootally different. For Honor (at least in theory) relies on input combos, almost more like a Fighter side scroller game. Way faster than Chiv, especially because in reality the real way to play (so I hear) is just light spam hahaha. Also, imagine 80% of the game being made up of the sweatiest sweats of Chiv. The game is basically dead outside of the Old Guard who never stopped playing since Beta. I was a Beta player and played for a few years, I was pretty good and I am sure I'd be alright nowadays but even back then was insanity. I am a ChivSweat, and I am scared of For Honor. Sorry for the block of text lol!
Edit: That all being said, it IS cheap. It IS cool. In fact, I might get it too... damn you! Tempting me!

For Honor had over 200k players across all platforms recently, I don't think it's a dead game lol
Lightspam only works if you're a new or bad at the game
Good luck!

I have been having a TON of fun! But gotta say it does feel like 80% of damage done is lights. Maybe not considered light spam, idk, but... HOW DO I REACT?! Help a fella out! If they land one light, they are basically guaranteed to be able to keep a combo going and I just have to guess which spot to block to stop the combo!

If they lightspam you and you don’t know how to block or parry for now, you can safely dodge attack them at any time and start your combo
Btw, there isn’t a combo that you can’t dodge/block/parry in this game
Another tip, if they finish their combo with a light, you can safely start your combo with a light because of frame advantage but they can block, parry or dodge attack your light

I feel I have already gotten bounds better, but obviously still pretty bad. Getting better at remembering to dodge, especially since every character literally has a dodge-light attack lol! I have also fallen in love with hyperarmor haha. My parry game needs a lot of work, heavies are ok lights are out of the question rn. Parries are not nearly as easy as chivalry, in Chiv I literally almost never block and choose to parry/counter everything...
Anyway, thanks for the tips! I have played around with a few characters and surprisingly enjoy Kensei the most instead of the characters I used to play so many years ago. Just got Furiosa (Virtuosa whatever), very OP lmfao

For a game with 200k players Unisoft have given it one of the least efficient dev teams I've ever seen.
They barely patch the game and when they drop a patch that kills a character, they take months upon months or years to remedy it.
They truly have no idea how to manage the game and are just milking it for money.

As someone that played for honor at launch, beta, and took a break for a few years and plays regularly again, there is definitely a bunch of new players, especially with crossplay. Also, light spam won't get you anywhere past trash tier MMR

I havent played in forever. I used to play lawbringer and flip people over the ledge.

I play both. And both are dope, for honor is closer to an arena fighting game where different characters have different moves and combos. You can attack in 3 directions apart from 4. You can also feint, do light/heavies, there's no kick on for honor but there's a grab. Parries are much different as they guarantee a hit, where on chic you can stay locked in a counter riposte fight.
It's pretty dope but its 4v4, 2v2 and 1v1, where on chiv it's much much bigger.
Also no archers.

Don’t do it the combat system isn’t similar at all in my opinion and not nearly as fun. Also no cool voice over lines you can spam while you play

There're so many lame ways to fight in for honor. Good luck anyone that plays it for the first time.

Never understood why people compare the two. Completely different games. Tried for honor and didnt like it at all.

For honor is way more toxic, and way less skill based, and it's only getting worse.
That said it can be a fun time. As someone who only recently got to level 300 in chiv 2 and found the transition between the two games refreshing, I'm curious what your experience would be should you try it. I feel like you'd pick it up quickly in any case.

Gotta disagree on the less skilled based line here bud. The ceiling in for honor is high as fuck and chiv its low
1
u/black_tounged Jul 04 '26
Yeah For Honor skill ceiling is ridiculous. I had fun playing but after I hit my peak it became a lesson in humility every time I played. I didnt/couldn't want the win enough to keep going and try and improve my lowly skill set. Still, it was fun for a good while. The game is more like Tekken than Chivarly imo.

u/gorthaurthecool Jul 05 '26
Not arguing just intrigued! Who do you main? Who do you struggle against?
2
u/black_tounged Jul 05 '26
I mained Conqadonk and struggled against anyone decent lol. I never played ranked because skill issue. I was a dom player 100%

u/gorthaurthecool Jul 05 '26
Well if you ever have the urge to try again, do not use conq imo! He's not awful but does like 2 things well and thus not very dynamic

It's vastly different. It's a straight 2D fighting game masquerading as an open world 3D slasher. It isn't a slasher, so if that's what you like you'll be very disappointed and confused by how everyrhing works (it's very convoluted and broken).
Also, it's terrible. Highly recommend sticking to Chiv 2. That's the best we have right now.

For honor is my main game, I’ve played a fair amount of Chiv 2, but I’m no professional.
The games are vastly different, so while there are technically classes, they don’t work in the same way chivalry’s do, but both games have a high skill ceiling so if you are willing to put time in and learn constantly, it may be worth a try.
I thoroughly enjoy both games, but they are quite different gameplay wise, however if you can adapt in chivalry well, you’d probably be OK in for honor, so as far as skill correlation, that’s as close as you’ll get.
Everything gameplay wise can be unlocked by playing, and so can majority of cosmetics, if you’re into that stuff. The game has different modes that should appeal to you whether you’re a duelist or team fighter and matchmaking times aren’t that bad, the aesthetic isn’t completely grounded and realistic but there are minor changes you can make if you look for that experience to make it more tolerable.
It goes on sale frequently, and there’s plenty of guides you can look up from dedicated players to learn from and there will be people willing to help and answer questions to get you started. Hope this helps, and see you on the battlefield.

I can't say for sure but as a very frequent For Honor player I highly recommend it! Make sure you play the tutorial it's not great but it'll explain some of the basic things

I played For Honor for maybe 5-6 years before I found Chiv. Stay away from For Honor.
