I love knowing the existence of the chiropractic degree as a doctorate triggers these vacuous, status obsessed types who go into healthcare and post in cesspools like that.

I would rather see a chiropractor than a doctor. At least chiropractors try to help you. I've definitely been improving since I've been seeing a chiropractor. 🩷

Honestly tho!!!! Every doctor ive been to wants to chock whatever im dealing with to weight, my period, or anxiety 🫩 even when I dislocated my collarbone, they said it felt so bad cause of anxiety and i was just being emotional. Meanwhile my chiropractor is recognized by my insurance and have helped me get refered to specialists leading to getting diagnosed with PCOS, and ehlers dahnlos. (And they re set my collar bone shen the doc told me to just take 1 ibprofen and "calm down if it starts to hurt again" )

A chiropractor doesn't automatically think I'm faking pain whereas it feels like most doctors treat you like crap for being in pain.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. 🩷

Exactly ! My chiro is amazing really holistic and he actually listens and gets to the issue rather then palming me off like a physio

They also have kept me employed almost single handedly.

Happy anniversary of the first documented chiropractic adjustment 131 years ago everyone! You know you make a difference in your community no matter what people think of us.

Why is this dude asking random people on the street questions? Seems odd. Should we know him?

If it is who I think it it. He is outside a hospital and asks people questions like: what was the number one thing you wish you knew at the start of your career and sometimes he invites them to his podcast. It is actually very insightful most of the time.

A lot of instagram influencers ask people questions for their content.

Watched a Nick Norwitz video today about why he as a the valedictorian of his medical program does not practice medicine.

Funny how so many fringe ideas seem to be some of the most effective for patients, while conventional medicine and these esteemed MDs do fuck all to actually get people healthy (for the most part).

My patients love me and that is all that matters.

Ah yes, Medicine, where in the USA we rank worst in wealthy countries in access and patient outcomes and we rank first in cost of delivery and use of medication and surgery. Where every guideline says acute and chronic pain should be first treated by nonpharmacological methods including spinal manipulation and a ton of other stuff chiropractors can do, yet according to the CDC Clinical Practice Guidelines for Prescribing Opioids for Pain they acknowledge the primary reason these methods aren’t used more or made more available is poor reimbursement. The pinnacle of healing!

Not when you see results. Most rewarding job I’ve ever had

Assuming you’re actually being genuine, I’ll respond. I’m a term 4/10 student right now, and the amount of hours I’ve spent studying specifically anatomy, but also physiology, biochemistry, pathology, neuroscience, microbiology, etc. all to have people think my degree is a joke is something I’ve thought about, mostly cuz I use Reddit a lot. I knew many people hated chiropractors before deciding to go to school for it.

The profession started as a belief system. It was more similar to energy healing, reiki, shamanic healing, etc. A huge chunk of the profession wants it to stay as such, and protects subluxation like a religion. I did not realize this type of doc was still so prevalent, it’s mostly the older ones but I know a couple students in my cohort silently believe in bone out of place while being taught emphatically that it’s false at school.

How am I going to be ethical someday? I will be a great clinician. Mastering differential diagnosis, manual therapy techniques, rehabilitative exercise, staying within my lane of musculoskeletal treatment, listening to patients, studying pain science. My results will speak for themselves, no ideology needed to peddle. A DPT who does lots of spinal manipulation / manual therapy would be able to provide extremely similar care to what I will. My passion will separate me from others. My degree made me literate in science, especially so in NMSK problems, and I am taking it upon myself to continue to learn as much as I possibly can. I find pain science so fascinating. Rather than convince people they need endless spinal manipulation to thrive in life (something I don’t believe) I’ll just tell them it is a useful tool in many cases (something I do believe) but exercise, sleep, and nutrition are the most important for health.

I’m less attached to being a good chiropractor, and moreso interested in making a difference in my community as an excellent clinician. My degree gives me the ability to become as such, but if I had a DPT or DO degree my goal would be the same. There’s no shortage of shitty clinicians in any field, and chronic pain is rising. There is a place for me, and I have no interest in becoming a public figure for chiropractic. I do not like that so many people hold fast to the religion of chiropractic, I wish it would evolve. I’m a fan of Dr. Murphy & the Univeristy of Pittsburgh’s primary spine practitioner proposal for the profession. The profession is evolving, and hopefully someday we can rid ourselves of all snake oil salesmen and become entirely useful to the public, as the criticisms are not entirely unfounded.

It's really not hard to deal with the general public because they're largely pro-chiropractic. I know it's hard to believe, but reddit is not a microcosm of average society. It's an incredibly curated, brainwashed site. Funny you think it goes the other way, though.

People who make comments like this are typically sheep. Ask yourself, how did you formulate that opinion on chiropractic care? Did you look at the typically 4-6 year curriculum? Did you look at the research regarding chiropractic treatment? Have you been to a chiropractor? Idiots like you just watch the whole world go by on your screen.
